CNET News Video: Tech Minute: Camping apps

1:03 /

If you plan on venturing into the great outdoors this summer, don't forget to pack your tech. In this Tech Minute, CNET's Kara Tsuboi reports on the best apps to help you plan your camping trip and survive the wilderness.

Before you even think about pitching that tent, download the $3 Camp Finder app onto your iPhone or Android. This app will search through 18,000 reviewed campsites and RV parks to find the perfect fit for your family's needs. If you're prone to forgetful packing, then the $1 Camping List app for the iPhone will be your saving grace. Customize packing list and check off the boxes, so you never forget that flashlight or a pair of hiking boots again. Revive your old scouting skills with a $2 Knot Guide for both iPhones and Androids. From the adjustable bend to the Zeppelin loop, this app offers easy to follow step by step directions from more than 100 useful knots. Finally, it's good to be prepared for that worst case scenario. The free survival guide for iPhones or the $6 SAS Survival Guide for Androids, will tell you how to handle a snake bite, water shortage, extreme weather and more. Never hurts to be prepared. In San Francisco, I'm Kara Tsuboi, CNET.com for CBS News.
