CNET News Video: Tech Minute: Become an art aficionado with Artsy.net

1:04 /

If you're an art lover, collector, or simply someone with a passing interest in art, a new Web site might pique your interest. It's called Artsy, and it's designed to run as a search engine of sorts for fine art. CNET's Kara Tsuboi explains in this Tech Minute.

Spending time on the website artsy.net is like walking into a really good fine arts museum combined with a well curated gallery. At every click, you can virtually wander the halls admiring work in different genres and some that might be for sale. To unlock the power of Artsy, I would start at the browse feature at the top to choose a topic that interests you. From there, you'll learn a bit about the topic and see artists whose work exemplify that period or style. When you click on one that intrigues you, you'll learn more about the artists, the piece and related artworks that have similar themes, subject matters or styles. Follow an artist to hear about new exhibits or click "Inquire" to find out how you can own that work of art. Artsy has created this rich web of more than 21,000 pieces of art through its Art Genome Project similar to how Pandora makes recommendations for songs based on what you like to listen to. Artsy will do the same. In San Francisco, I'm Kara Tsuboi, cnet.com for CBS News.
