CNET News Video: Tech Minute: Back-to-school apps for parents

1:03 /

Soon those lazy, carefree summer days will come to an end. In their place come school schedules, homework, and carpools. Don't be overwhelmed by back-to-school chores. Instead, download a few handy apps to keep your family on track. CNET's Kara Tsuboi reports on some of her favorites in this Tech Minute.

One of the most dreaded task of the school year is packing lunches, all the planning, shopping and then get your kid to actually eat it, all of that stress is eliminated with the 99 cent iPhone app Lala Lunchbox. With this colorful easy to use app, kids can build their well balanced lunches ahead of time by dragging their favorite foods into a virtual lunch box. The food they choose will automatically populate a shopping list for mom and dad. Carpool School Edition is a fantastic free app for iPhone users. Keep track of that complicated weekly or daily schedule with members of your carpooling circle and record who is driving each way. Finally, ease your kids into the school year with the $4 iRewardChart for iPhones and androids. Enter your kid's names and their weekly chores. For everyone accomplished, the child receives stars that can add up to substantial rewards that you set-- say 10 for an ice cream cone or 50 for slumber party. In San Francisco, I'm Kara Tsuboi CNET.com for CBS news.
