First Look: SXSW Interactive 2008

2:07 /

At SXSW Interactive 2008, Brian Tong tells us exactly what it is all about.

[ Music ] ^M00:00:05 >> Hey guys, Brian Tong here with CNET.com at South by Southwest Interactive in Austin, Texas. I've never been here before. CNET sent me out with a job to do, so let's find out what is it. [Background music] >> South by Southwest Interactive is the geek portion of South by Southwest. We bring together digital creators from across the US and around the world talking about the newest, you know, technology. >> Would it be safe to say South by Southwest is kind of for like hip geeks? >> I hope so. Yes. >> So now we know what South by Southwest is all about but why do people come from all over the world and what are they looking for. >> New and different things. You walk around. Everybody has got there; their eyes are alive. This is a young, hip crowd and it's not a corporate conference. >> Just meeting people that I watch online everyday, read their blogs, seeing them in person and people that I don't see often like you! >> I'm excited about all the new ideas and I just come here to learn. >> Mostly, I like just randomly running to people what I have heard of or have talked to via E-mail or via E-mail or 0ld-fashioned let's say this FaceBook maybe. >> Hearing great new ideas and talking to as many smart people as I can. >> Well for one, I'm not working my butt off for CNET [laughter] so that helps. It's different from a lot of the other tech conferences because it does have kind of a party atmosphere to it so people are more willing to be more laid back and relaxed. >> Another part of the South by Southwest Festival is the ScreenBurn Arcade and while the grown-ups are upstairs at work, this is where all the kiddies come to play. ^M00:01:29 [ Music ] ^M00:01:36 [ Background Music ] >> Now what would South by Southwest be without parties, parties and more parties! >> We call it the Spring break for geeks. >> Is there anything else you'd like to say for people that may be have not been to South by Southwest? >> Come on down next March. It's lots of way to make new connections set lot of fun. >> So there you have it. South by Southwest, it's all about the panels, the people, the parties but I'm just happy to be chillin' in some Legos. See you all. ^M00:02:03 [ Music ]
