Sony Vaio F215FX
I'm Dan Ackerman and we are here taking a look at the Sony Vaio F215FX.
This is the latest in really a stream of 3D laptops that we've seen this year.
We think about it.
2010 was sort of the year of 3D TV with a lot less fan fair.
2011 in a way is the year of 3D laptops because we keep seeing them.
This version from Sony is a little bit unique and that it uses the Nvidia 3D Vision System which is
common enough on 3D laptops that's-- it uses at the screen and the graphics card and then the emitter that's built into the laptop to work with active shutter 3D glasses to give you a pretty good 3D experience on games and, of course, 3D Blu-rays but unique to Sony, they don't use the Nvidia branded glasses.
They use their own Sony branded glasses that should work both with this laptop and if you have a Sony 3D TV's.
So, if you have the complete Sony infrastructure at home, then you just need one set of glasses for your computer
and your TV.
Now, on top of that, this is a pretty standard Sony multimedia laptop.
They do those really well.
This version has a Quad Core Intel Core i7 processor when it's got mid-range Nvidia graphics with a GT540 card and that's perfectly fine for playing HD video and Blu-rays.
That's a 1080p screen.
It does okay with gaming.
It's not as strong as gaming laptop out there but you do get that really cool Sony industrial design and build quality which is really hard to top and that might be
[unk] at this particular system.
It's about $1,800 bucks while there were other 3D laptops with the similar components that you can get from may be $1,100 or $1,200 but those are much more plasticky feeling overall.
Another thing that Sony does that nobody else does is they have this little keyboard skins that fit on a lot of models.
You just peel it off like that and look at that.
They've got a black keyboard in different colors.
These are about $20 or $30 each and they're actually surprisingly popular among the people who buy Sony Vaios.
It's a good way to customize your system.
The only
really strange thing about this laptop is that it's unbelievably heavy and much more so than other mid-sized laptops.
This is a 16-inch model right here.
You're definitely not gonna want to put this in your backpack and carried around with you and, you know, other 3D laptops, they weigh about the same as regular 2D laptops.
We were not sure what happened here.
I'm Dan Ackerman and that is the Sony Vaio F215FX.
