Sony touts Altus streaming-audio line
^M00:00:05 [ Background chatter ] >> David Carnoy: Hi, I'm David Carnoy, Executive Editor for CNET.com and I'm here with Gary Roberts of Sony to show us the new Altus Wireless Music System. This is a new display that is going into Best Buy and these products will be out in September. Gary if you could run us through the various models. >> Gary Roberts: This right here is the SW system and basically what we're talking about here is that this is a separate iPod doc, stereo speakers and a wireless subwoofer. This sells for 499, comes with the remote controls. You can expand and here's how you would expand. Let's say for example I want to output a speaker in another room ok so I can go with the SA 34 R and I can actually take the speaker, put it in the kitchen and just all I do is plug it up and I can actually get the sound from the SW10 and then go bingo right here. This is the SA31IR solution and the advantage here is that of course it comes with an iPod doc and it comes with 2 separate S-air stations or clients and the benefit here is that I place my iPod on the docking device and I can have a 1 of my S air stations in the bed room. I can have another S air station in another bedroom or family room or wherever the place may be and I can actually begin to listen to my iPod. So it allows me to actually listen to the same thing in the same room or I can listen to my iPod in 1 room and listen to an FM station in another room. This is an LCD remote control and the benefit behind the LCD remote control is the fact that my Meta data and to make that very simplistic I take the information that's on my iPod and now can see it on the LCD. So if I'm in the bedroom with 1 I can look at and make changes with my LCD remote. If I walk into that second bedroom I can also see that information and make changes there. So that's the advantage of the LCD remote control. The reason why we came up with these various solutions is we wanted to make sure that it answered all the needs of the consumer so if they want to use an iPod which is the essence of what's going on with the Altus Aspect they can. If they want to use the PC for getting their music from 1 place to another they can. >> David Carnoy: And I'm David Carnoy and that's the Sony Altus Wireless Music System. That will be out in Best Buy in September [music].
