Tech Industry: Sony KDL-55HX820

CNET.com's Sharon Vaknin takes a first look at the Sony KDL-55HX820 from the showfloor of CES 2011.

Hi. I'm Sharon Vaknin for cnet.com. I'm here with the First Look at the Sony KDL-HX820, which comes in 55 and 46-inch models. Now, unlike the XBR-HX929, this television only does edge-based local dimming, so you don't get the full array of dimming and brightening like more the expensive model, which results in a slightly thinner TV. Other than the luck of full-array local dimming, this TV is pretty much the same as the HX929. So, it has internet services like Hulu, Netflix, youtube, and the 35 others in addition to the X-Reality Pro Engine, so it's still gonna convert those lower quality internet videos in addition to your high-definition videos. This television will come out in the spring, but Sony has not given us any details about pricing. We only know that the previous model was about $3400. For cnet.com, I'm Sharon Vaknin.
