I'm Lori Grunin, senior editor with CNET, and I'm here in the Sony booth at CES with the Handycam, HDR-PJ50V.
Now, this is one of the products that actually took me by surprise when I was thinking about what might be upcoming for the show.
Sony has a built a projector into the camcorder.
Now, when you think about it, it makes a lot of sense.
You'd think it would take up a lot of space, but it doesn't.
They fit it into the back of the LCD,
and frankly, it's a pretty small camcorder.
This one happens to have a 220 gigabyte hard drive.
It comes in a flash version as well, the PJ30V.
It also has, you know, as the V indicates, GPS built in.
All the other specs are pretty typical for a camcorder in its class.
I would qualify it as a mainstream camcorder.
It doesn't have a lot of manual controls that you get in more expensive camcorders even though this one will run you about a thousand dollars.
You're paying for a lot of the convenience features of, well, you know, like having a projector in it.
It's got 7-megapixel Exmor R which is still their backside illuminated sensor as well as a 12x zoom lens.
It's the G lens, which is Sony's higher class of lenses once again what you expect to see in mainstream camcorders.
It also has the 5.1 surround mic recording.

Projector as I said, it make sense so that's really convenient.
Personally, I think it's gonna encourage people to leave all their video on the camcorders which really, really, really you shouldn't do that.
Even if it's in there, please download your videos so that you're not losing all of your video when you go and trip and you drop it.
Of course, projecting without sound doesn't make any sense, so Sony has built in stereo speakers into the vessel of the LCD.
It uses the S-master audio system which is the more advanced audio that comes down from their professional models, so hopefully we'll get some really nice sound out on the camcorder as well.
I'm really looking forward to trying this series of camcorders out.
It comes in, as I said, the PJ30 which is $950.
That's also a relatively inexpensive one which will run about $700, so that one doesn't have the GPS.
And frankly, if you read what I've said about GPS, you probably don't need it and so you can get a projector camcorder for about $700.
In any case, we'll see this in April.
