>> Hi, I'm Matthew Moskovciak, Senior Associate Editor at CNET.com, and we're here with the Sony DAV-HDX589W. This is a 5.1 home theater system from Sony, and includes a built in 5 disk DVD changer. As you can see the speaker systems consist of 2 front tall boy speakers, a small center channel that can fit right under your TV, and a couple of small rear speakers. Now these rear speakers are actually wireless. This system comes with a Sony S Air receiver that you put in the back of your home theater. Now it's called wireless, but you'll still have to run a couple of wires from the receiver to the rear speakers, but it is better than trying to run wires from the front of your home theater all the way to the back. As I mentioned there's a 5-disk changer, and that's included in the main receiver unit. If you look around back you'll see there's not that much additional connectivity on the system, and there are no video inputs, so it's not that easy to integrate other video sources like a game console or a cable box into the system. You'll need to run the video input to your TV and the audio connections to the main receiver unit. On the other hand we were happy to see that an iPod dock is included with the system, which is something that you often have to pay extra for on some other home theater packages. Now overall for sound quality we thought that the Sony sounded really good on movies, there's a lot of bass coming from the subwoofer, and it provides an immersive experience. However, like a lot of home theater systems, if you're listening to just 2 channel music it's not as strong. And you're probably, if you're an audio file, you're gonna want to go for a more component based, more expensive system. Over all we found that the Sony DAV-HDX589W offers a good balance of features and performance for the price. But because of a lack of video input, if you're gonna want to upgrade to blu-ray in the future this may not be the best system for you. I'm Matthew Moskovciak from CNET.com, and this is the Sony DAV-HDX589W.
