Culture
[MUSIC] Greetings citizens of the internet, welcome to Tomorrow Daily the best geek talk show in the universe. I'm Ashley Esqueda. And I'm Jeff Cannata. Are you ready for some science headlines? If you're not, too bad. A Disney funded robot may someday help you, in the operating room. This robot was built by a research team that includes members from Northeastern University, The Catholic University of America, and Disney Research Pittsburgh. It's remotely operated and can complete delicate tasks. Like threading needles, picking up eggs, and even playing the xylophone. The robot's new air and water based movement system is how it can complete the tasks shown in the video. And its abilities mean it could also be used for other detailed procedures. For example. [UNKNOWN] surgery where a doctor would take control of the robot via long-distance and perform an operation on a patient. Doctor, pass the xylophone. Pass the xylophone. Doctor, I need you to play the xylophone. Carry this egg across the room. Carry this egg [UNKNOWN] I don't know what kind of medical procedure- I need you to put some buttons in my clothes. It does seem like the Disney version of an operation. It's stitching, I mean, [UNKNOWN] needle and the thread it's like stitches, maybe stitches. No, it is cool that these robots can do much more nimble activities, very cool. So as they go forward, I mean, I'm sure at some point, you're gonna be able to hire some world renowned xylophone master to play your birthday party, finally. You're welcome internet. And just when you thought the selfie stick couldn't be iterated upon, somebody put fans on it. This automated selfie stick video hit YouTube the other day, and it's a selfie takers dream It auto extends, has two beauty lights that emerge from the back of the holder, and even has a pair of fans on the handle that switch on to give you your own Beyonce wind fan for your hair. Unfortunately you won't be buying one anytime soon. Marketing team Think Moto came up with the design from scratch as a promotional tool for the Lifetime show Unreal and there aren't any plans for releasing the design commercially. They also did not. Let's see how much it actually costs to build it because if they built it from scratch, it's gotta be, that's not gonna be a $10 selfie stick at Target, right? Like it's gonna be a lot more expensive. I just wanna see someone just casually bring it, pull it out and then like the wind is in their hair. I love how strong the fan is. It's like, I mean, seriously, it's really crazy. Amazing. I love this video so much, but drill crowd, it's a thing people really enjoy. Yeah, it's hilarious until you're like But I secretly want one. I openly want one. I just wanna shake my hair, get my Vidal Sassoon selfies going. I think we should talk about that one. Yeah I want to find out if other people out there want them. I'm dying to know. So you can use the hashtag HEYTD on Twitter and tell us if you would either buy this selfie stick for yourself How much you would pay for it, Yeah. or if you would buy it for someone else then how much you would pay. And one of the things they might be able to put on a selfie stick to make it even more crazy? What's missing on the selfie stick that you need, Yeah. to cross over to the dark side? Reach out to us on Twitter, use that hashtag hey TD and we'll incorporate into our long show on Thursday. Yes. And with that being said, it is time to check out our phone-tographer of the day. [MUSIC] [SOUND] Look at this adorable photo. Our phone-tographer Troy sent this in, he took these on his iPhone 5. Yeah, Troy wrote us an email and said, hello Ashley, Jeff, and producer Logan. I love your show, you always do a great job. With the theme of spring, I always think of flowers blooming. With that, I have attached a few pictures from the Keukenhof Gardens in the Netherlands. They always have a beautiful display of tulips every Spring. Last May, my wife and I took our dogs Molly and Belle to stroll through the wonderful scenery. I took these pictures on my iPhone 5, the phone takes great pictures. If you see them fit to use, I give you permission to do so. Keep up the great work! How gorgeous is that! That's amazing looking! I want to go to there! I got my mom tulips for mother's day. I got her a bunch of tulips. Very springy. I've always wanted to visit Holland and see the tulip fields. That would be incredible, of course. And it's stunning. Troy did all the right things. He sent us his picture to tomorrow@CNET.com. And then he told us a story about it. It's a great story. Great story. Told us how to, he didn't need to tell us how to pronounce his name. But if you have a difficult name to pronounce you should tell us. Wouldn't hurt, it could have been Froyay or something weird. Tell us what device you took the picture on, iPhone 5. And also, what's the last thing? Gave his permission. Gave his permission. Gave his permission to use it on the show. So if you want to be our photographer, follow all those instructions. We'd love to see your stuff. It is spring, and our theme this month is Spring. So hit us up with those spring photographies. Springtime pictures. And you can get creative with it. That is it for today's show. We'll be back tomorrow with a brand-new docket of Science fact and science fiction smashing together just like the large [UNKNOWN]. [LAUGH] Until then. be good humans, see you guys next time bye.
