Sci-Fi tech now real at CES
As a CES first timer this year, I couldnt help but feel a sense of dejavoux as I wandered
through the exhibits looking at gadgets that at some point Id already seen on my TV
screen.
Hey guys its Vanessa Hand Orellana from CNET en Espaol in for Donald Bell, and this
week were taking a look at the top five TV shows and movies that best predicted the tech
trends of 2014.
BODY _________________________________________________________________________
5. Minority Report
Coming in at number five, we have Minority Report. This futuristic thriller came out more
than a decade ago and wowed us with touchless gesture controlling. Who can forget
where Tom Cruise swipes through screens of informations as an agent whos been
accused of a crime he hasnt yet committed.
And while we cant catch criminals before they strike, touchless controlling is now a
reality. At CES this year we saw Elliptic labs using ultrasound technology to click through
a Windows 8 display on a laptop, and they werent the only ones experimenting with
this.
4. James Bond franchise
At number four, the names Bond... James Bond
In the franchise, Double 007 is always debuting the latest technology thanks to
Quartermaster Q, the King of Gadgets.
In 1997, Pierce Brosnan gets a phone with a fingerprint scanner and a touchpad to
control his BMW. And while the brick of a phone seems outdated, and the movie was
subpar, the actual technology was spot on.
We saw touch ID debuting on our smartphones last year, and at CES this year we saw a
driverless Audi and Range Rover fit into tight parking spots with the touch of phone app.
Did I mention the BMW controlled by a galaxy gear? Although thats getting into
Nightrider territory.
3. Star Trek
Coming in at number three we have Star Trek. Remember the scene where Captain Jean
Luc Picard materializes a cup of tea. on the replicator?
With the surge of consumer faced 3D printers you can now buy your very own replicator
that prints everything but the Earl Gray. Makerbot showed off their Replicator mini at CES
this year for $1,375 at CES or the next model up for $2,899 .
Soon enough well be able to print out food in low gravity environments or body parts
mid surgery.
2. Back to the Future 2
Second on our list is a movie 80s kids like myself will remember fondly Back to the
Future 2.
In the sequel, the Delorean is at it again taking Marty and the Doc 30 years into the
future the year: 2015.
Now, I dont have a time machine, but Im pretty sure I can tell you what 2015 looks like.
Remember the McFly family dinner, the kids decked out in their wearable tech answering
calls with their glasses. Compared to the Google glass these things look chunky and dated,
but they do have a slight resemblance to the Oculus Rift, the virtual-reality gaming
headset making waves at CES.
The movie also predicted flat screen smart tvs with multiple viewing screens and video
chat. But in all seriousness where in great scott is my hoverboard?
1. The Jetsons
And ringing in at number one The Jetsons
The show was a novelty in an of itself as the first program ever to be broadcast in color
on ABC in 1962.
The Jetsons were your typical family in 2062, mom, day, two kids, their dog astro, and the
trusty maid Rosie.
Now we dont have a robot with an apron doing our chores, but we do have video chat,
robotic vacuums, and smart appliances that can be controlled remotely with our phones.
Samsung and LG were a few of many to show off these connected homes of the future at
CES.
OUT _______________________________________________________________________________
And there you have them the five futuristic flicks that first debuted the technology we saw
at CES. There are a lot of more didnt make it on this list so send me a tweet with your
favorite or post on the comments below.

Viaje a

2. Back to the Future 2

1. The Jetsons
