Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito (Sprint)
>> Kent German: Hi, I'm Kent German, senior editor here at cnet.com. Today, we're going to take a first look at the Sanyo SCP6760 also called the Incognito. It is a new phone for Sprint. Now, this design we've seen quite a few times on other phones first time we've seen it on Sanyo. Basically, it's that flipbook design where it opens horizontally to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard and a horizontal display. You might think that this is just a big silver front nothing there but actually it is a big touch pad. There's a little switch here on the side you slide. You flick that down, and you'll turn it on. So you have a full alphanumeric keypad so you can make calls here from the outside. Of course, that face is shiny so it means it really attracts your fingerprints every time your press a control. It really will be a personal choice, I think, so you definitely want to try this phone before you buy it. I wasn't such a fan but other people might not mind. Also, I didn't like that the backlighting turns off pretty quickly and there's no time adjustment as well, but again, that flick on the side will turn it back on. You do get a very small external display above. You can go through very limited menu functions. I do agree that it is probably best under most conditions to go inside the phone to use the menu. But it would really be nice to at least get color out here so one thing I wasn't crazy about. Open up the phone. Inside you have a nice internal display, pretty bright and colorful, pretty standard Sanyo, menu system is easy to use, colors and graphics look good, phone's hinge does feel pretty solid. And it doesn't open to a full 180degrees which I don't really mind, but and actually has a little bit of angle so when you're holding the phone in your hand and it does fit comfortably, you can see the display pretty nicely. And when it's resting on a table, the phone doesn't wobble if you try to type. So that's a nice touch as well. Keyboard is really nice actually. One of the best I've seen on a messaging phone very spacious. The controls are separated from each other. There are two soft keys below the display, and I really like how they're positioned. You can see that they're directly below the corresponding command on the screen. A lot of phones have this design and they put the soft keys way over here or even down here in the bottom. So it's really nice to see that they're just directly below that command. So really nice I did like this keyboard an awful lot. It was very comfortable. I can dial and text quickly and never felt really crowded. The phone does a fair number of features. There's a twomegapixel camera, offers 3G so you get the Sprint Music Store and you get the Sprint TV so you can access streaming videos, Sprint movies, whole bunch of things, a lot of applications that are unique to Sprint like the Sprint Navigation, and the Sprint NASCAR. You also have Bluetooth, organizer, messaging and email, and a speakerphone. Overall, pretty decent device. This will be the deal breaker for some people. I don't know if I'd get this phone just because of that. But if you really want a nice comfortable messaging keyboard, this phone is a good buy. I'm Kent German and this is the Sanyo SCP6760 Incognito.
