>> Hi. I'm Kent German, Senior Editor here at CNET.com. Today, we're gonna take a First Look at the Sanyo SEP3810. This is a new phone for Sprint Service. Sanyo phones have always been with Sprint. I haven't reviewed one, personally, for a long time. Even though the Sanyo cell phone brand is now owned by Kyocera, you can tell this is very much with the Sanyo roots. It looks a lot like phones before it, kind of a square design, not too flashy, but pretty slim. One thing that I wasn't crazy about with the design is the small, external display. It only shows the time. It is hidden, so it disappears when the backlighting is off, pretty useless as an external display in many ways. Phone does have a pretty solid feel in the hand, tends to feel sturdy. When you open it up, you'll see that nice display. Menu system is very easy to understand. Colors look good. Graphics look good. The screen is bright. Down below, keypad and controls, they are flat with the surface of the phone. See, there's this kind of rubber strip there that prevents your finger from sliding all the way down, but even though the keys aren't flush, I found it pretty easy to text. Large numbers on those keys, they do have a bright backlighting. The phone doesn't have a whole lot of features. You'll see messaging. You'll see Bluetooth, organizers, speakerphone, PC-synching, USB mass storage, thing like that. Couple things that it does add is it has -- it can connect with Sprint Navigator for GPS, and it does have the Sprint family locator service. But if you just need a phone for making calls, the 3810 does a good job. I'm Kent German, and this is the Sanyo SCP-3819 for Sprint.
