The Samsung SGH-T139 doesn't promise much, but it serves its purpose as a low-end phone for making calls.

[ music ] ^M00:00:03 >> Hi, I'm Kent German, Senior Editor for CNET.com. I'm here with the Samsung SGH-T139. We take a first look. This is a pretty simple phone. It is for T-mobile. Not a lot going on as far as features. It's really built for making calls. Has a pretty simple design. Doesn't call attention to itself, but its pretty user-friendly design. It has curved edges, feels pretty nice in the hand. Just simple silver, kind of bluish color. On the back you have a bit of a diamond design. The phone's not the most sturdy you're gonna have. The hinge felt fine and it opened and closed well. But, you know, it's, it's made of plastic, and so you want to be careful if you're dropping it a lot. Certainly not a phone for, you know, someone who works outside or who needs something that has a lot of padding. On the outside you have a small external display. I felt it could be; I felt it could have been a bit bigger for the phone. But this is a phone that is pretty low in price. And as I said, it's for making calls, so I understand why they went the route they did. Does have a monochrome resolution, so you're not gonna see that real photo called ID, or much else besides just showing the date, time, battery life, things like that. Above you'll just see the camera lens, there's no flash. On the side there's the volume rocker. On the; over here you'll find a combined headset jack and charger port. This is Samsung's for priority connections. We're not real fans of that, but the good news is that Samsung is phasing that out. Over here you'll find just a camera shutter. Inside the internal display mostly bright and colorful, very standard for a phone of this caliber. Felt they could be bigger as well. There's a little room here that they could have increased the display, but shows what you need. Then you interface the standard icon or list design, pretty easy to use. Keypad buttons and controls, actually well designed. I was a big fan of those. Did like the spaciousness of the navigation array. You'll find two soft keys, there's a diamond shaped toggle in the center. Sort of continuing that diamond theme that's here on the back. It is silver and it's raised just a bit, so pretty easy to grasp onto. There's an Okay button in the middle. Also find the talk and end power keys, and a dedicated clear button. Keypad buttons are also well designed, they are spacious, they are raised above the surface of the phone. Dialing wasn't a problem. Texting wasn't a problem. You can do both quickly. So, liked; really liked the inside. The keys are a plastic feeling. Again, I like this phone as a whole. They don't feel entirely sturdy, but I think for a phone you just need around just to make calls occasional, maybe some texting, maybe get on the web browser once in a while, it's certainly a phone that suits that role.
