First Look: Samsung SGH-i7181:40 /
The Samsung SGH-i718 is a decent Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC smart phone with a 2.0-megapixel camera, quadband GSM support, and integrated e-mail support.
[ background music ] >> I'm Nicole Lee, associate editor for CNET.com. And this is the Samsung SGHI718. It is a Windows mobile pocket PC and as you can see there are no keys involved here, it's just one giant touch screen for all of the navigation and the dialing. On the bottom here the typical navigation toggle as well as the two soft keys. On the back here is the [inaudible] megapixel camera and the self portrait mirror. Now you may be wondering how you're gonna dial. There's a touch screen keypad here. And you dial it by you know, pressing the keys here. The interesting thing with this phone is that it actually has a slight haptic feedback whenever you touch the keys. So whenever I'm dialing, I'm actually feeling a very slight tiny vibration. However, the haptic feedback only applies to certain applications of the phone. The rest of the phone's features has to be navigated with the included stylus right here. It also has support for Microsoft Office documents, like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and it's also a quad band GSM phone. However Windows mobile five is kind of an old OS, especially with Windows mobile six coming out now. And it doesn't have 3G support. [ background music ] Also because this phone doesn't have any US carrier, you have to buy this phone unlocked for the hefty price of over four hundred dollars. So for the price we don't think it's really worth it. My name is Nicole Lee, and this has been the Samsung SGHI718. ^M00:01:26 [ music ]
