First Look: Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9

1:45 /

Samsung's latest Honeycomb tablet takes all the great features of the 10-inch model and shrinks it down to a more compact, finger-friendly size.

-Hey, I'm Donald Bell and this is a first look of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. This is another Honeycomb tablet running android 3.2 and is priced at $469 for 16 gigs or 569 for 32. As the name implies, the most unique feature on this table is the 8.9-inch screen, which makes it smaller and more manageable than the tab 10.1 fro earlier this year, it's still too big to fit in your pocket. Samsung is playing Goldilocks recently with their tablets. They have a 7.7 and 8.9 and a 10.1 plus they've announced the galaxy player tablets, which come in a 4 inch or 5 inch screen, something for everyone I guess, but as it confusing as it might be 8.9 inches is actually kind of nice suite spot. When it comes to typing, you can stretch your thumbs across the screen, books look great, and the whole thing is really like. Under the hood, you have everything offered by the 10.1 including a 1 gigahertz dual core processor, 1280 x 800 resolution and all of Google's official apps plus you also get Samsung's unique touchWiz interface, which adds features like screen capture, a task manager for killing apps, and some useful gesture controls. On the downside, there is no micro SD memory expansion. No integrated video output. It's also priced a little high compared to many of the other Honeycomb tablets that are out there. Still, if you like your android tablets thin, light, and fast and just a little more compact, the Tab 8.9 is a great choice. For cnet.com, I'm Donald Bell and that was a first look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9.
