First Look: Samsung Galaxy Axiom affordable, entry-level

U.S. Cellular's Samsung Galaxy Axiom is like a smaller, much more basic version of the S3.

I'm Jessica Dolcourt from CNET. This is your first look at the Samsung Galaxy Axiom for US Cellular. Now, it looks like a smaller and thicker version of the Samsung Galaxy S3. But believe me, it is a different phone. It does, however, have 4G LTE capability in markets where US Cellular also house 4G LTE. There is a 4-inch LCD WVGA screen that runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Samsung's custom TouchWiz interface on top. You've got a front-facing camera, above display. On the back, you've got a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with flash and then it takes 720p HD video. Inside, you've got Qualcomm's 1.2 gigahertz Snapdragon processor that should be fairly fast. There's also a 2100 mAh batteries. So, that's pretty good. The phone should last a while. On the outside, you've got a microSD card slot that will take up to 32 gigabytes of external storage. You might want that because there are only 1.9 gigabytes of internal memory that's available to the user. This phone is also NFC enabled and Google Wallet comes pre-installed. This is obviously a midrange phone so it all comes down to pricing. Luckily, it is $79.99 or, if you live in a 4G LTE area, this phone will sell for 1 penny. You can also buy it off contract for $400. I'm Jessica Dolcourt. This has been your first look at the Samsung Galaxy Axiom for US Cellular and you can catch my full review on cnet.com.
