Robot showcase features pizza- and sushi-making bots (Tomorrow Daily 409)
[MUSIC].
Greetings citizens of the Internet.
Welcome to Tomorrow Daily, the best news talk-show in the known universe until the Thursday upon which We will close down the set.
The universe.
The entire universe.
Actually, we're gonna be the best show in the no longer existent universe.
That's the plan.
People will all remember it as being the best who in the universe.
That's right, because that's when the universe ended.
I'm Ashley Esqueda.
I'm Jeff Cannata.
But this week, we still got you covered.
We got your headlines.
I'm a terrible, terrible sushi chef, especially at home.
But maybe someday Robots like this might be able to help me.
Recently, Kawasaki opened a robotic showcase called The Robo Stage.
There were all kinds of different robots for potential buyers to check out in person including a pizza robot, but there was one demo in particular that caught our eye.
These robotic arms showed up their skills by making Nilgiri sushi.
It's now what they're specifically meant to do but it is a great show of the robotic arm's dexterity and precision as one of the arms dabs wasabi paste onto the rice and then places the raw fish on top.
It's not exactly the sushi master you'd want if you went to a high end legendary sushi restaurant but maybe some day Robots like this might make for easy quick sushi stops for when you're on the go.
I love it!
Give me a sushi robot and I'll put it in my house!
I want that.
If I just get an appliance that just makes me sushi
My gosh
and all I had to do was slice the fish I'd be A+.
I made sushi one time.
Did you?
Was it good?
We went to one of those
Kind of an event night, when you [CROSSTALK]
Learn how to make a food?
Yeah, it was actually a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.
[CROSSTALK]
A robot could even do that.
I am often yelling at red lights when I sit in my car.
But in the future, my car will be talking to the red light.
Audi plans to roll out a limited test of its vehicle to infrastructure service later this year.
Select models of Audi cars located in cities with specific traffic technology will soon communicate with a red light.
If you pull up to it and then display a count down timer to when the light will turn green and disappears seconds before it hit zero.
so what's this technology going to help with, aside from turning every red light into your own personal Mario Kart countdown.
Well Audio thinks this is the beginning of our cars talking to cities which over time would increase efficiency and would hopefully reduce commutes and traffic But you know this is gonna be people just revving it up.
Street racing.
Revving it up.
I would like my hud in my windshield, my future car windshield, to have a little lachu with a race.
I'm a little more old school.
I want mine to go Prepare to qualify.
Wow.
[SOUND] That is old school.
[SOUND] That is so old school.
[LAUGH] Full position.
You can download voice packs for like audio packs.
I like it.
I like that we download audio packs for cars to make us our favorite racing game.
I like how the end game is that we're all gonna be
Safer, but in the short term, much more dangerous.
[LAUGH]
Way more dangerous, 100% more dangerous.
I like both of these topics, what do you wanna talk about on Thursday?
Man.
Our very last show.
No pressure.
That's a good question, I like both these topics too.
Maybe infrastructure.
Yeah, let's do that.
That sounds like a fun one to talk about.
Future infrastructure and how-
How clouds can communicate to cities.
I think that's a really good topic.
Yeah, it's a really, really big topic.
And Toyota's got some interesting stuff going on with future cities and things like that.
So Lets talk about what you think your car should be talking to as you drive around town.
Use the #HEYTD and we might feature you in the show.
It's our last big show on Thursday we'd love to incorporate your comments about any of these episodes so be sure to let us know.
Or if you want to just say goodbye to us.
Well, that too.
<< But for a short time because we're gonna be doing something else.
Just not this.
You wanna talk about phonetographer of the day?
<< Let's do it.
[SOUND].
Today's phonetographer of the day is Brad who took this photo with an HTC1M8.
Brad [UNKNOWN] says [UNKNOWN] watcher, admirer, dreamer and now just sad.
It's been a great journey for us but sadly this is it.
You have asked for the best and here is what I have for you, it was a cold December night in San Diego, California.
We were celebrating my friends 40th birthday at the beach and sun started to fall in the sky.
We started a little bonfire to keep us warm and this was the view over the bay.
I especially like the sparks coming out of the fire My name is Brad.
B-R, the sound you make when you are cold, and ad, the thing I have to watch before I get to watch your show.
[LAUGH] Well done.
He told us exactly how to pronounce his name.
Touche, Brad.
This is a great picture.
Very San Diego.
Gorgeous picture, yeah.
Yeah, amazing.
What a stunning shot.
Absolutely love it.
Yeah, and people have been really stepping up with the best picture they've ever taken.
We only have a few episodes left, but we've been Loving those phonetographers.
Bold over and impressed by your phonetography skills, my friends.
Yeah.
If you wanna submit, obviously we're not gonna be able to get to everybody.
We got to see their stuff.
Two more days.
If it's really really good, you still got a shot.
Tomorrow at CNET dot com is the e-mail.
Yeah.
And feel free to send right over us but, you got to do four things.
You got to four things.
You got to tell us how to pronounce your name like Bur Ad did.
Bur Ad.
You have to give us permission to use it on the show
You have to tell us what device you took it on because we're a tech show.
We want to know.
And we love little stories like Burt Ad told us about that.
He even started with the equivalent of it was a dark and stormy night.
That was a pretty good story.
But it was like it was a pleasant wonderful night in San Diego.
It's been the best of times and the worst of times.
There are no other types of weather in San Diego.
Super pleasant evening.
Thank you so much for watching the show today if you want to hang out with us, come find us on Twitter.
We're @ashleyesqueda and-
And @jeffcannata.
And @jeffcannata.
We will be back tomorrow with a back tomorrow with a brand new docket of wonderful science fact, I mean, science fiction for one last short show, and then we'll have the long show on Thursday where we will say our goodbyes and fly off In a SpaceX rocket, since some other university [CROSSTALK]
You're organizing that?
You're making that happen.
Totally.
You know what, I called [CROSSTALK]
You got SpaceX to commit?
Called Elon, he said it's fine.
You're amazing.
And you know after playing No Man's Sky, they figured out how to fly through black holes.
So we are good.
I think it's worth it that instead of doing any more episodes of this show, we just took all our money and bought us one trip on SpaceX.
I think that was a good A really wise choice.
I think they have really good patrion honestly.
I feel like I should just start that.
If you want to send me to outer space you guys just hit me up on Twitter, and if there's enough interest maybe I'll open up a crowd fund.
Send me to space.
Send me to space, not space camp, space.
Second Kickstarter is get me back from space.
Yeah, help me come back from space.
I can only afford half the ticket.
No
Alright guys until next time.
Be a good human.
Bye
