Riding the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge
[MUSIC]
You call it an infinity screen, Samsung calls it the edge display.
Whichever term you use it introduces a novel shape to a very specific job.
I'm Jessica Dolcourt for CNET, and this is the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge.
Now, the shape and second screen are the only points of difference between this Edge and the Galaxy Note, for that matter.
So, if you wanna learn about the 16-megapixel camera and new S-Pen stylus tricks, check my full Galaxy 4 Note review on cnet.
Now onto the good stuff.
The glass here bends to the right, creating this edge display that you can use for a ton of different things beyond making it the date and time.
For example, you can launch tools like [INAUDIBLE] Alert which is really cool, and swipe the menu to get to the one you want.
Same thing [INAUDIBLE] to create even more.
When you open an app like the camera, the edge screen fills with controls to support it.
You can also wake just the edge display.
Say if you want to glance at your notifications during a meeting, or quickly check the time.
The idea here is that by five-lining the tools you need, the rest of the screen belongs to whatever it is you're looking at.
It's a simple idea that gives the phone's bendy shape a purpose, but it does take some getting used to.
Okay, we've talked about the screen.
Now what about the shape.
Even though it's asymmetrical it still feels surprisingly balanced in the hand.
Just be aware that it is really wide.
The edge display is made for right handed folks.
But lefties can flip the phone upside down to swipe and use the tools with that hand.
The note edge, is a wacky but wonderful concept for brave new adopters who really want to stand out from the crowd and try something new.
New.
However, it doesn't really do anything that the Note 4 doesn't.
And you will need some time adapting the new tools and workflow, into how you use your phone each day.
I'm Jessica Dolcourt, for much more detail, read my full Samsung Galaxy Note Edge review at cnet.com.
