Pokemon Go is Nintendo's first augmented reality mobile game (Tomorrow Daily 240)

No, not true. But everybody was like this is a great idea. Okay. So, let's talk about it right now. Let's hear the headlines. Nintendo's first mobile app preview trailer came out. << It's about time. << About time, oddly enough not one of the five mobile apps that DNA said that they were collaborating with Nintendo on, remember when they said they were working on mobile apps? << Yeah << They said we are working on five titles of DNA Not made with DNA. This is Pokemon Go! Pokemon. People are gonna go nuts for this. I wanna let you know, immediately. I like how the guy puts on his Ash hat. Puts on his little red hat and goes out [INAUDIBLE] Pokemon. Oh, no. Think I know what this is. You know what it is. It is a free to play augmented, reality Pokemon catching battling training game. No! Goodby life. No! Oh God, Oh God, I'm gonna do this. Oh I know, I know. I saw this last night and producer Logan is also really into Pokemon so look at, they see Pikachu pop out Oh, they have a little Pokemons. OK. Tell me more details. OK. Augmented reality made by the people who created Ingress, which is the really cool augmented reality game. Ingress was pretty decent. Pretty awesome. I enjoyed it. And I, here you go, you can go out, you can catch. You can train. You can battle with your Pokemon. You can share them with other people. So here it is, they are sharing. There you go. Connect. Connect it up. You can trade your Pokemon. There will be an optional accessory that you saw very briefly right there and throughout this video. It looks like a Google Maps pin, but it has a pokeball logo on it. Look at it, under attack. You can tell your Pokemon are under attack. This is gonna be amazing. And it's a wearable accessory. This is called the Pokemon GO Plus. That's that little map pin and it looks like a Pokeball. And what it does is it'll flash and vibrate if you're near a Pokemon. which is, whoa. People are going to love this. << So for disclosure, I played Ingres for like a week << for a hot minute? << like really intensely for a week. << Yeah << It was kind of fun until it got stupid. I would pull over if I was passing a note You like take over a note So, I'd be in my car, and it'd be like, now approaching a node. I'll be like, son of a. And I'd be late for my job. I'd pull over. [LAUGH] I knew you'd like that. [LAUGH] All right. Let's talk about go pro and that crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy VR rig right now. Okay so YouTube and Go Pro are going to be working together. They announced this a while back. That they were going to start making it so you could watch 360 degree videos on YouTube. Yep And Go Pro is going to make a rig that was going to work so flawlessly with it. Well we have it. It's call the Odyssey. It's out now. We have, it's first video came out today so you can go onto their channel and go check it out. You can go around. This is Logan, Producer Logan using the actual video live as a screen capture. That frame rate though. Yea, look at that frame rate. It's great. One of the things, before we get into like the knitty gritty. One of the things that producer Logan pointed out was that because there not top loaded camera, you can't really look into to the sky. Yeah. You can't see directly. Producer Logan is like a big producer guy, so is like, no, that's a no. So anyways, if you don't know what the Odyssey is. This video is directed Neil Bitto using the GoPro Odyssey. It's shooting a time-lapse of 360 degrees of New York City. The footage that you're seeing is not stereoscopic spherical video, because YouTube doesn't support it yet. Right, right. But they will. Monoscopic until they add the support. Yeah. And then you'll be able to [INAUDIBLE] And 3D it and whatnot. So the big thing that I wanted to talk about was the price, cuz that was like the big thing. Besides the video, [INAUDIBLE] No we talked about that. What? The price like way back when they announced it. We were like, how much do you think? And we were both like, probably Ten grand. Yeah. Eight to ten thousand. So the Odyssey, just before you figure out how much it costs, is 16 GoPros strapped together around. Around, not up or whatever. Get out your wallet! 16 GoPros. So it will cost you Fifteen thousand American dollars and will not be available to everyone yet. So you can go on to the GoPro website and they have an exclusive thing. They're going to pick and choose who gets to spend fifteen thousand dollars Dollars to buy, what is it? 16 GoPros put together when people have already figured out how to put like 8 GoPros, so. Like a cube. That thing is huge, by the way. So, November is when this is gonna come out for [INAUDIBLE] dollars. I saw it in person At IO and it was not small, this is not a small thing, very large. And so I have a lot of trouble trying to figure out who exactly is gonna want to use this unless Gopher pays them or gives them the camera for free to go make things with because Yeah when we did our E3 stuff, when we did our E3 in 360, the camera is literally this big. it was not large. And there are 6. Yeah, six or eight. Six or eight small cameras. Yeah it seems half as many as fifteen. Yes there were less than half. They worked fine and you could see straight up. I thought it worked really well, but thar's just That's me, I guess. I don't know. That is expensive. I don't know. $15,000? You could buy a car with that kind of money. Yeah, I'd kickstart a movie. Down payment on a house if you're a first time home buyer. It's too much. Producer Logan, would you buy this thing ever? Never in your life? Never. Yeah. Never. Not without a top camera. Yeah. Not without a top camera. Top camera. What if they added another top camera for 500 bucks? Nope. Wait you don't go selling- Cause the black one is what 4, does the Go Pro, the black top model is like, is it like 500 almost. So anyway, it what. The top end Go Pro Hero. Isn't it like 440, something like that? Yeah, yeah. So you gotta add tax. That's like almost 500 bucks. Somebody's gonna modify it and put one on top. So there you go. GoPro Odessy, $15,000. Really, really, really, really, really stupid. No, thank you. But the future's here! Woo, welcome to the future. Get out your checkbook. Let's talk about lasers and asteroids, cuz this is pretty fun. So now there's this plan in the 2020s to capture an asteroid in space and then bring it back to Earth, which I really like this idea, like, I think it's, I think it's awesome. It almost reminds me of, like, a movie plot, Oh, we've got to go capture an asteroid and bring it back to Earth. Cuz they wanna study it. Obviously asteroids are of interest. There's lots of them that fly by us all the time. And unfortunately the problem with that is that a lot of asteroids are in fact spinning at very high rates. And so it's very hard to slow them down and the space craft that they're designing to go up there and grab. That asteroid is not really equipped to slow it down. It's sort of like, if something's moving really fast, you shouldn't put your hand in there to slow it down cuz it'll just chew your hand up. Yeah. Same, same problem. So, UC Santa Barbara has an idea and they think. Lasers is the answer. And honestly- Always! I think lasers, yeah, is the answer to really everything. So UCSB's experimental cosmology group decided to check out, try and test, and they did right here in the video, a concept that is called D STAR and that stands for, directed energy system for targeting of asteroids and exploration. So really it's DSTAE but they put to R in exploration as last because it makes sense as shortened. Uses a laser to heat up an asteroid's surface. So they used basalt, which They'd feel as very similar to the surface of an asteroid. So they use a laser, they heat up the surface, they bubble it to the point where it bubbles. The surface bubbles and the bubbles pop and explode, and they cause a little bit of a reaction, and basically the reaction acts like little tiny rockets. That would change the thrust of a spinning object. Oh my God. So if this is the asteroid and it's spinning and let's say it's going clockwise, you would basically shoot a laser at it this way as it was spinning. And then it would hit the surface, maybe you go like this, and it hits the surface and bubbles. Those bubbles act as thrust this way so it slows it down and stops it. That's the idea is that it would slow it down. That sounds. really unpredictable to be honest with you. They actually said you could do it over long periods of time with low wattage lasers. You could do it pretty precisely because it is a laser. And they are working on this. So this is an actual thing they have Tested and they say has been- Oh look they're slowing that thing down. Pretty successful. So here it is, they are slowing it down. So they are hitting it with a laser. However that is on a rod. The thing I'm worried about is that it's in space which it could go any direction. And if they accidentally start moving it in the wrong direction, goodbye. Very true, they would hit us, yeah. That would be bad. But the thing is, it's [INAUDIBLE], so now they're spinning it the other way. So the laser had the ability to create enough thrust to turn it the other way. So very interesting sort of idea from UCSB. And honestly- Yeah, that is pretty interesting. Pretty impressive that somebody was like, you know what? Let's shoot some lasers at it. Like I got an idea. Yeah, sitting down, coming up with this idea, I don't know how did they even got to making bubbles. Nope. Okay, you know, and that's why they are scientists and we are not. So, but really impressive stuff and maybe someday we might use lasers to slow down asteroids so that we can grab them and bring them back into Earth. For some reason. I think they also mention the potential of Of knocking space trash out of our orbit, so like dead satellites and stuff, that basically push it out of our orbit. Yeah. So it wasn't constantly circling the Earth and being a danger to the ISS and all this stuff. Nice. All right, we're gonna take a quick break. We're gonna come back. We're gonna talk Intuit. Everyone has to dress like there in the apocalypse and there is like music, and there's dancing. There's fire. There's And there's just people being weird. And you're out there for like three days and it's just Where is it? It's in the desert. I don't know. I just found out that I'm going. And I'm going in like three weeks. But this week I'm getting like prepped mentally [LAUGH] Do you need to borrow my [UNKNOWN] mask? I need to start getting like just trashy stuff. I can't wait. I even told producer Logan I wanna make my truck look all like, Perfect. Mad Maxian, and drive through there. I've got a green truck, though. I need to make it look brown or something. Put some blood on it. Blood splatter. [CROSSTALK] I'm down. Like fake blood and stuff. I think that'd be great. Yeah. But anyway, I'm really excited about that, cuz I wanted to do this ever since I played Fallout. I fell in love with the apocalypse of the world. I may try and wear my Volt outfit but there's also, there are rules. You have to, once you pass a certain point, you have to be in your outfit. But you can't be a normal person, like you're- It makes the promo videos look really good though. Well, golly, so. Well those are the people they kill and eat. [LAUGH] You're gonna have to eat another person if they wander in [INAUDIBLE] Mm, this kale tastes raw. Cook it up some more. Anyway. So, that's my intuit. Well- I'm excited. I'm into a game. I've been playing Metal Gear and getting through that. But then, That's long. [UNKNOWN] it's really long. So, I've gotta break it up a little bit. So I'm into Until Dawn. I'm not sure if you've played this? It's quite good. Supermassive games made it. Which they did LittleBigPlanet on Vita. And this game, it reminds me of the Telltale games, Mm-hm. With the decision, but it's a little bit more involved than that. So it's about these friends who, of course, they go up to a mountain cabin and everything goes bad. It's a survival horror kind of game. Nobody learns. No one ever learns. It's made for PS4 on the killzone HD engine. Oh, wow. So it looks gorgeous. And [UNKNOWN] is one of the lead [UNKNOWN]. She does the voice for that character and it's really beautiful. And it really works under thousands of different outcomes And every like, nobody is guaranteed to live or die. Like that's the cool thing about it. Huh. And I just started playing it, so I'm not far into it, but I like it. Its really interesting, I I like that they give you all these choices. Like, they really kind of make it your own horror movie to create for yourself. Uh-huh. And honestly like, who lives and dies is all up to you. That seems really cool. Pretty cool. Yeah, you're a big horror type. Yeah, I love survival horror stuff. And this is, it's actually, so far I'm really interested in it. I like the story. I mean, it's a little trite I like the spin on it of being able to sort of be, it's a choose your own adventure sort of thing, is great. I think it's well done so far, I mean I really like it. Now you need to play Life is Strange. I know, I bought it. I bought it. It's on my stack of shame on Steam. And I'm like, okay, I'm gonna get to this. So I think I might get to the first chapter or whatever this weekend. Oh, you listened to what Jessica [UNKNOWN] wants you to play First before you play what me and Logan want you to play. Listen friend, Jessica Chobot and I both love weird stuff. So we like the weird survival horror. We love horror games- um-huh. and weird stuff. So that I had to get it and then I also did buy Life Is Strange before I bought Until Dawn. I just haven't got around to it. Right. They might release it on other consoles, I don't know. Let's jump right in. My 13 year old daughter Carly took these two pictures last weekend with her iPhone 6 when we were traveling from Vancouver to Kennewick, Washington and back. We stopped At Multnomah Falls on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge on the way there. The Falls used to be the number one tourist attraction in Oregon until a large casino opened along highway 18 halfway between Portland and Lincoln City on the Oregon coast back in the mid 90's. She also took the one of the Stonehenge replica slash World War I memorial in Maryhill Washington, overlooking the Columbia River, on her way back. You have our permission to publish them. So that was the two images that he sent that his daughter Carly took. That is gorgeous. Yeah, that's impressive. Love the bridge, that really breaks it up, makes it really interesting to look at. And then this memorial, I didn't realize what a strange A combo of Stonehenge and War World I Memorial. But, okay, I'll go with it. The nice, kind of stone monument. Yeah like, Like peanut butter in my chocolate, yeah. Yeah, yeah, okay, I'll buy that. I'll buy that. So, really good. Really, really good. They are going to be creating brand new content and it is going be movies and television. I am going to be doing an aftershow for Agents of Shield. Just a whole bunch of stuff. I'll be there five days a week doing like. Four different shows a day its going to be a lot of stuff of be writing. We be very busy now. And producing and stuff like that. Yes.
