First Look: Parrot Asteroid

2:04 /

The Asteroid by Parrot is the world's first Internet-connected, Android-powered car stereo, but is point a pro or a con?

How was this car stereo like this mobile phone? Well, for starters, they're both powered by Android. That's right. This is the Parrot Asteriod, the world's first Android powered car stereo receiver. Let's hop in our (??) car and see what it does. See what's interesting about the Asteroid is that you when you bring one of these into the car, this is all 3G access point. Plug into the USB port in this car, it basically turns it into the internet connected car stereo that it's advertised at. For example, you have road trip, there's a Google map software that allow you getting point A to point B. There's also an interesting tune in radio app, that lets you stream audio and podcast from the internet, but there are a couple of (??). For example, that Google map software, it doesn't give you live turn by turn directions and update. Basically, it will give you directions from where you are to where you're going, but just to manually advance them with the skip forward and skip backward button. But it's not all that, I mean for starters, there's a really great voice command system on here that allows you to push the button and buzzing the name, Gorillas and it will do it just like that. You've also got a really good hands free calling system and because the Asteroid comes with a dual microphone system that has noise cancellation and echo cancellation, it's also one of the best sounding hand free calling system that we've tested. Who do you want to call? Optimus Prime. Optimus Prime. (??). My biggest issue though comes back to those apps 'cause they're gonna really make or break this car stereo. This is what makes it stand out from the basic sort of next free receivers that are on the market for about a hundred bucks and less. The good thing though is that Parrot is actively pursuing more partnerships with more app partner. Till then at the Next One Good One we've been taking a look at the Parrot Asteroid.
