First Look: Panasonic DMP-B500

The Panasonic DMP-B500 is a second-generation portable Blu-ray player with HDMI out and built-in networking.

[ Background music ] >> Hello folks welcome to CES 2010 I'm Brian Cooley taking a look at the Panasonic DMPB500, it's a second generation portable Blu-ray player, I didn't know there was a first generation cause I haven't adopted Blu-ray yet and you may not have either. However, for those that are committed to it this is an interesting device in that it fits not necessarily in an ultra portable mode notice it's got an easel on the back which could make it even more of a premises set so let's say you had this in a second room where you want to move it around the house a little bit, it's a little bit more on the luggable side than it is on the portable side but it's got a lot of features in it including an HDMI out, 10 inch screen you can see right here that can move around and flip although it doesn't actually turn and clamshell down on itself so it's nothing you want to ram into a laptop bag with a bunch of hard things, crunching on the screen just bear that in mind. We've got Vieracast on here which is Panasonics internet service and as you can see I've got a wired Ethernet jack right here it also has Wi-fi built in so you can get online with it either way and when you get that connected the Vieracast service has been bumped up to have Pandora, Amazon, Netflix, YouTube, pretty much all the major online content services that are playing in this whole over the top and net delivered space. Now this guy doesn't have a price set just yet, they'll set that just closer to release which is coming up in the spring but if you're looking for a portable Blu-ray player with a pretty good size screen and kind of nice you know white industrial design this is definitely one to consider. [ Background music ] >> Brain Cooley: That's the Panasonic DMPB500 here at CES 2010.
