First Look: Nokia 3711 (T-Mobile)

1:24 /

The Nokia 3711 puts style over usability, but it offers functional features and decent performance.

[ Background music ] >> Kent German: Hi I'm Kent German Senior Editor here at CNET.com. Today we're going to take a first look at the Nokia 3711. It's the new phone for T-Mobile service. We saw this phone at the Fall CTIA show. It was one of the few phones to actually be introduced there and it is a little basic. Not a lot going on with the design or the features. It comes in a sable finish at least that's what the T-Mobile and Nokia are calling it. Open it up you can see you have that smooth curve that Nokia's done on quite a few phones now. Also has a pretty slim profile. External display is hidden so it does turn off when the back lighting is off. The camera is on the back. There's no self portrait mirror or a flash so you want to be mindful of that. Open up the phone inside pretty standard display mostly bright and colorful, regular menu system so it shouldn't be too confusing to most people. Navigation array and the keypad buttons are flat but they're pretty spacious, they have a lot of room so you can maneuver around pretty easily. Very little definition so dialing by feel is a little difficult. There is a bright back lighting though and the numbers on the keys are pretty large so should be fine for most users. Inside you'll find Bluetooth, the 2 megapixel camera, personal organizer, speaker phone, USB transfer. So pretty standard array of features on the low to mid range nothing too exciting but definitely good for making calls.
