Culture
On today's show, a class is gonna teach you how to take better pictures of your food. A light bulb that lets you blast your favorite tunes. And Nintendo is bringing back a long-dormant championship, so get ready, it's "Tomorrow Daily." [MUSIC] Greetings citizens of the internet. Welcome to Tomorrow Daily, the best geek talk show in the known universe. I'm Ashley Esqueda, joining me as always punching the sky, ready for the weekend, Khail Anonymous. I'm ready for the weekend. Is that a song? Everybody's working for the weekend. Oh, Loverboy. Working for the weekend. You got the cool black jacket on today. Yeah. You're ready for your music video debut. Joined a gang last night. Perfect. [LAUGH] I thought we went through this. Initiation process. Which was, I'm assuming like food eating, a hotdog eating contest? Yeah, it's just a fat gang, it's great. That thing. Yeah. Alright, on that note, let's head to headlines. Thursday come out to rails already. Thursday. We've already jumped into hotdog games. Okay, we have to talk about Nintendo again this week. I know we talked about Nintendo and Universal, but Nintendo just announced their E3 plans. Including something that I am so excited about that I may have floated into the studio in, in happiness. So Nintendo released this video yesterday morning. And it was Reggie, good ol' Reggie [FOREIGN] thinking about what they could do at E3, and he, they had decided. Just say what it is. They have decided to bring back the Nintendo World Championships. Whew. We have not seen the Nintendo World Championships since 1990, that is the last time they existed. If you have ever seen The Wizard, the movie with Fred Savage. He goes to the the Nintendo world championships and he plays Super Mario Brothers 3. So what is this exactly? That is awesome. Okay. So what they're gonna do is, we don't really know what games. We don't know exactly what the championship's gonna be. I'm hoping for some retro titles I know you were saying Goldeneye would be a good one. I'm saying Goldeneye would be the one that I'd stomp everyone at. Okay, fair enough. So we have some, yeah this is some footage of the actual, like, world championships that, yeah, used to be. I'm sure they'll have some older titles, but they'll likely have, you know, Smash Brothers, MarioKart, things like that. They are going to have qualifying events at Best Buy locations around the US in major cities. So keep an eye out for that on Nintendo's website. And they are Going to have the full event right around E3 on June 14th. At E3, or? Sunday, Sunday, June 14th, which is, it, it's that's E3 week. Like, I think it's at the end of E3, if I'm not mistaken. Or no, may, no, it's the beginning of E3. So they may Show a new game then. They very well might.>> Just like they did on the Wizard. Just like they did on the Wizard. I hope the prize is still a power glove. I will say Nintendo is a little late to the competitive sports market. A little bit. But I feel like they've got enough pedigree, because of the world championship. Yeah. That's really going to charm our hearts. As long as it's not like, it doesn't get too serious as far as the competitive gaming. [CROSSTALK] be in there. Optic is going to join, that's one of the more popular Clans, so. I think this is going to be a really, really popular event. And, I think Kail and I need to, I think we need to enter it. I think we need to go to a Best Buy and enter the contest. I don't think, I'm ready for that. Unless there's Golden Eye, and which case I'm going to stomp you fools. I'm telling you, we should just go and see what they have. Because If we could qualify with some older games, I feel like there are a few that I could really Great at. So, yeah, I think, I'm hoping there's going to be different age groups and all sorts of stuff. I am so excited for this. Yup. High five to Nintendo for bringing this back. Good job. Little kid in all of us very, very excited. Yes, and some actual real little kids who exist right now are excited too. Okay. Tell me about this crazy light bulb. So this new device It's made by Sony, so it's legit. It's not like [NOISE] it's a concept. Somebody's trying to do this. [LAUGH] It's a Kickstarter. So basically Sony is introducing this light bulb that has a Bluetooth Bluetooth connector in it. [NOISE] So that you can play music. What? Yeah, it has a 2 watt. Speaker inside of it. This is glorious. So it's about the size, so this lightbulb's about the size of a regular light bulb and uses a traditional socket. So this, and then it has a Bluetooth connector that connects with everything, smartphones, tablets, and computers. So you can play music through it. I love how happy this lady is like brushing, washing the dishes, brushing her hair. Mm-hm. She's listening to Taylor Swift. Thinking about all the boyfriends she's going to break up with. Lonely Starbucks lover. Yeah, so it has translucent optical design. It helps limit shadows from the speaker inside the ball. It's 360 lumens [CROSSTALK]. It already has a launch date of May 23rd. That's soon! But not here, in Japan. Because Japan needs everything to be weird. All right, I want this. I want it. The issue is that it's $200. Ouch. I could get a [UNKNOWN] set. 23,888 yet. Wow. I would love, I guess we don't really know, One thing that I think would be really cool is if they all connected to each other. So if I had a room full of them... Like a Sonos, like Sonos systems. Yes, so if I, I was just like, I want to hear Kesha throughout the whole house, I could just play it and it just blasts it and my cat runs away. I can't imagine how great that would be, that'd be pretty amazing. Yeah. I would like to combine this technology with hue, and so that way you have color changing light, so that you can, That would be amazing. Have a party. Kale, Kale would literally have a rave in his house every moment of every day. I would. Making omelets raving. Non stop. Just, it would be fantastic. I think this is cool tech. Two hundred dollars, I might, I could see that. Like a good Bluetooth headset and then light bulb so. Ya well no so you pay you know two hundred bucks for like a Jambox or a beats pill or whatever. So this is, it's another Bluetooth enabled speaker. I mean it's not obviously as powerful as that and you can't take it. At just anywhere with you, but pretty cool, and I, like, I really like this. I'm in. I'm in, I like it. Meanwhi, it's a meanwhile in Japan, it's a meanwhile in Japan. I'd love to like, set this next to somebody who's like, reading a book, just like, quietly. Oh. [LAUGH] And just like, blast like, some dubstep. [NOISE] You're dumb. [LAUGH] Anyway, so very cool. All right. I love it. I, Good for Halloween as well. So tell us about this terrible school. Ugh, okay. Like, I saw this story, and I thought it was sort of a, indicative of the times, but also Like a little bit like oh, really? This is a program called Food-o-graphy which, you know, not unlike phonetography. [LAUGH] But it actually is, it actually is made, like, it's a class designed to teach you how to take better pictures of your food. And they made these special plates. That have the high backs on them which actually I think are really beautiful. I would like to see stuff like that in restaurants. Anyway, and then they also have this 360 plate that spins around in kind of on a lazy Susan so you can get some cool videos of, a fancy dancy Fancy food when you go out to eat at, at expensive places. [INAUDIBLE] But here's the thing. It, so it's from a car, it's from Carmel Winery and- It does look really stupid with their iPhones. Yeah, I know. It, it's ridiculous. Like oh, these, these like super high end chefs taking pictures of their food for Instagram is crazy. So this, it's a Tel Aviv restaurant called Petite and, and Carmel, Carmel Winery is the other. Place. And they're saying this is an actual dinner experience. That is, it includes best practices on taking photos of great food picture- like taking great food pictures. And, they actually have pro food photographers come and teach you. Like they come in and they're like this is actually how we photograph, beautiful dishes and things like that. And it, it is expensive. It costs $155 an hour. An hour, ooh. You know, that's almost a Sony Bluetooth Speaker lightbulb for one hours worth of time. But I mean I really like these plates and I like this kind of concept of see, I always [UNKNOWN] teaching people better [CROSSTALK]. Wait, do the plates have a build in place to put your phone? Yes! It has a little built in flat you can stick your phone in. So it's not. You're not shaking your [CROSSTALK] You failed us! Mankind you failed us. And so yeah they've got all this stuff to help you take better pictures of fancy food. Like I said I mean. $150 an hour though. 165 bucks an hour that's crazy. Keep that in mind for that keep it time. Okay sign of the times I totally get it. Yeah. I totally get it. And food is all about presentation. Very true. Like that's the number like the number one thing. But also let's like eat it. Enjoy eating food but. You can enjoy eating it Okay, i, i, if this were like $20, or like if it was $40 for like a day. For a hour, or, or like a five course meal. Yeah. Not an hour. And I enjoy that it's some people's hobby, some people only do their instagram for this. And I get it, it's not my thing. I do not like your pictures on instagram. I'll ignore it, but that's not my thing. Unless you take a photo of In & Out and then I'll- And then you're good, yeah, but present it nicely. Make it look good. I don't care. If it's all over your face, just do it. If it's in your mouth mid chew just take a picture. Yeah, all right. All right. But I, I can appreciate helping I think people take better phone pictures, just because I, I appreciate nice pictures but I, I think this is a little bit pricey. Yeah, it's a little specific. But they wanna bring this all around the world. They wanna take this experience all over the place. So maybe, maybe coming to a city near you. I, who knows. And if it does, please go to it and, expense it or make it a tax write-off somehow. And then- Don't expense it to us. Yeah, don't expense it to us. And then, tell us how it was because we're definitely not paying for it. Okay, so that's headlines. We've gotta take a quick break. We'll be right back with into it. And then I have a, I have a, very special, a very special thing. It's show and tell again this week, I brought something. And well I brought somebody who owns a thing. So I made them bring it in. [LAUGH] But, but we'll be right back. So click go away. It's Tomorrow Daily. [MUSIC] Welcome back to the show. We have returned. It is a Thursday which means we have to tell you about what we're obsessed with this week. This is into it. [NOISE] So I get to, I get to go first. And this Thursday I'm super hyped for Hangout Festival, which is this weekend! And, and honestly this my only, this is I'm into it because producer Logan is going! And you're not! Hold on. I'll be thinking about you all day though. He's gonna think about you. Yeah so Hangout Festival is a big festival in Alabama, it's right on the beach. A lot, a complete mix of artists. It looks awesome. Like Foo Fighters and like Skrillex and Alabama Shakes? No, [INAUDIBLE] Why would Alabama Shakes not be in Alabama? That's a good point. Wow, well played, [FOREIGN] And Anywho, it's going to be a a big festival. If you're there, maybe look up producer Logan. Yeah, go find producer Logan and tell him we said hi. Go in our stead, go in our stead. And if you do go, send over some pictures, send over some phonetography. Who else are you looking forward to producer Logan The mogley. The mogley. Mogley. Good, I mean I'm I agree. I'm the biggest mogley fan in the world. Yeah, number one, so. No, but, [UNKNOWN] is way into the music scene so he, so he, yeah. So I'm excited about hand out with, have fun with Mr. Logan Just don't die. Come back, is what we're saying. Come back in one piece. So, be back I, I will beat that. I will beat that with, with this, which is a remote control. But, it's not just a remote control, it controls this. This is a DJI Phantom 3. It is a -- Oh my god, that is so beautiful --beautiful drone That takes beautiful video, and this is friend of the show Michael Hobbs' drone. He picked up last month. He pre-ordered it and was very excited. And I wanted to tell you guys a little bit about it, because I am, I'm kind of obsessed with all the video that he's been sending me on this, and now- Oh yeah, that's beautiful. Do we have footage? Now, I want one. Yeah. That's not him. [LAUGH] Well, I'll, we'll, we'll, we'll cut in some of Mike's footage too. Cuz he's been sending it to me on iPhone, and I wanna make sure we have kind of uncom, like a little bit, not iPhone compressed footage. So this is from DJI. This, this one in particular is the advanced model, this is the 1080, and it's it's, it's a 1000 bucks, which isn't bad, all things considered. No. No, not bad. There's a 4K version for 1259 that's called The Professional. They want to include a simulator in this. They're going to, in a future update for the app they're going to have a simulator so that if you're afraid to fly it because you've never flown a drone before. They will, you can learn how to fly it without actually putting this in the air and crashing it in to something because you're terrible at flying. And the video is absolutely great. It looks beautiful. It's on a three axis gimbal GPS positioning so you can like set it GPS wise and it will just Hover in the air, and you can control the camera. And it also has this thing which is a big upgrade over the Phantom Two, which is called Light Bridge, and it's an HD video downlink, so the remote here actually has a, a spot for your phone or your iPad. And you can drop that in there, and you can actually see a live HD version of your footage, or you can actually live stream, you'll love this, you can live stream straight to you tube. Really. Yeah So this is it. It is awesome and I, I'm really digging it. I kinda want one really bad but I also am just like, well I guess my best friend has one so maybe I'll just like live vicariously through his. Just murder him. Take his. Yeah. What I'm gonna do. Wow, way to bring it down, narc. Okay, if he's in the studio, he knows, he knows to run. He knows. He knows to run. But yeah. So, the DJI Phantom 3 is what I'm into this week. And it, it's so cool. And I just, it's so fun to play with. I know it. Yeah. Yep. So yeah. That's that's what I'm into. We're gonna show it off, though, right? We are gonna show it off. And, and hopefully we already have. We, we, we, listen guys, we recorded An intro just in case, but if it was a good drone intro then you know it worked. Oh, okay. So this is us unsure. This is us unsure, we're about to go and shoot this drone thing, so just a little disclosure, guys. May or may not work, so if you get a really cool intro to the show today, it worked. And if not, it doesn't. Okay, so, that being said, let's talk about you guys and your user feedback. [MUSIC] We got a lot of user feedback. No, no. We don't have any. Here's why So remember you guys at home when we said yesterday that schedules were kinda crazy around here, well we're actually shooting this show before Wednesday's episode goes live. So, we don't have your user feedback for Wednesday, and so what we're going to do is we're gonna come back next week with your user feedback about the tesla tube. And and so today there was no hashtag of the day, if you d, didn't notice. And we are just gonna read this awesome email from one of our viewers who wanted to talk about Nintendo Land and has some really great ideas. All right, let's hear it. All right. So, this was from Jose. Jose wrote in and he said: Hello guys, I submitted one on YouTube already, but I started thinking a little harder and it would be cool if they included street pass into rides. Your 3DS or mobile device. Remember, Nintendo's going to go into the mobile world, maybe the next Nintendo console's a phone. The Callboy, [LAUGH] would earn rewards for riding on rides, maybe even have achievements for riding the rides. And also while in line, have different games you can download and play. And at the end before getting on, a high score chart would display best scores of the day. Possibilities are endless. You could have secret areas around the whole park where you get a different playable mini game. Every two hours have tournaments. Winner get's a universal, exclusive amiibo. It would be amazing. I could sit here all day so let's pray it happens sooner than later but as long as they do it right, I could wait forever. Your loyal subscriber, Jose. PS, I love both of you, keep it up. [LAUGH] I can't get this, I keep getting this sneaky feeling that it's not gonna be as big as we think it's gonna [CROSSTALK] be when it first comes out. They'll buildup just like they did with the- Like, Harry Potter. The Simpsons thing. Yeah, The Simpsons thing. But I don't know, we'll see. But, really the possibilities are endless, and I think you guys have come up with some amazing ideas that Nintendo should absolutely consider including, because I love this free pass idea, and I also love this exclusive amoeba thing, where it's like you get enough points in the park during the day, you can go and get a little- Yeah. [INAUDIBLE] I think that would be amazing, so great work Jose. I thought that email was glorious and, we will get to your TD Tesla VR hashtag, on Tuesday and I'll explain why we don't have a real show on Monday as well. And if I can ask you to hang out [UNKNOWN] not being here But, all right. Just gotta take a vacation. I did. You know what? He works really hard. He earned that vacation. So, we gotta talk, though, about our last piece of user feedback which is always our Phonetographer of the Day. You know our good friend Albert wrote in? Albert, you know Albert? You know Albert. Mm-hm. Number one fans of Albert. Mm-hm. Albert. He wrote in, said hi Ashley and Khail. This is a picture of the new one world trade center building. AKA the freedom tower in New York City that I took with my iPhone 6 plus. I love the show and watch it every day. I hope my picture makes it on the show. Thanks, guys. Well your hopes have come true. It is awesome. That's just a cool building. It really is. I mean it's so beautiful and I love how the sky reflects it. It almost looks see through. Yeah. Like, it almost looks transparent and I just, I really love that. I think it's just so beautiful and it really is such it's just such a symbol for New York and I, but I just love it so much. I'm really happy that it. Is finally opening. The observatory's opening and all that stuff. Is that where they have the elevator? Yeah. Yeah. [UNKNOWN] cool? On the observatory deck, we have those special elevators. You take an elevator up and it shows the, like, building of New York over time. It's really cool. [INAUDIBLE] so much, it's so great. Yeah- Very cool, very cool photo. Yeah, fantastic, fantastic picture. If you guys want to send in your phone-tography, please do. We want to see them. You can email us tomorrow at Cnet.com. We will also accept story ideas, and, oh, and I've got to thank, I have to actually thank Vignesh for the Sony light bulb story. He sends that over on Twitter. Oh, we've got a submission of a story. Right on. He said, hey, maybe you'll cover this today, and we did, so Thank you Thanks. he sent that over yesterday and I was very excited. So yeah, if you want to send that over you can via email, if not, you can find us on social media. We're on Tomorrow Daily pretty much all over the shop. You can find us at Tomorrow Daily. Just look on your favorite social media site, we're probably Yup. there. And, if we're not I, we're not hip enough to be on your cool new media site. Sorry.>> Oh, yeah. remember Ello? Hello, Myspace or maybe we're just not hipster enough to be retro and go back to Myspace. [CROSSTALK] That's not a thing. And don't forget to follow us on our personal twitters account. I'm @KhailAnonymous. And I'm @AshleyEsqueda. If you love the show send it to somebody, tomorrowdaily.com. Just anybody. Send it to a stranger, I don't care. Do what ever you want. We will not be in on Monday. You'll have to live without us on Monday morning, I'm sorry. Have an extra cup of coffee. Logan will still be in Alabama. He'll be flying back home that day. So, we can't do the show without him. He's an integral part of this show. And we'll be back on Tuesday. So, until Tuesday. Vegan human so it won't be there next time. Bye. [MUSIC]
