CNET News Video: New iPad released worldwide

1:35 /

Today's the day tech enthusiasts have been waiting for: Apple's new iPad goes on sale. As with previous Apple gadget releases, people have been lining up around the globe, waiting to get their hands on this latest version. CNET's Kara Tsuboi reports.

All around the world Apple Enthusiast waited with Anticipation for the release of the new iPad, the 3rd one, if you're counting. State side is New York and San Francisco, the demand was the same. Also, (??) were a handful of protesters rallying against Apple and Foxconn, the Chinese iPad production facilities with alleged worker abuse. Stop picking in Apple just because you're trying to get publicity. You know why, Apple is a leader in industry. The reason people are lining up is because this is really the only way to get this product on day one, but it's also kind of part of Apple culture, people like to line and hang out with each other. It's kid of something that's uniquely there. I got into line at about 1:30 this morning. I just wanna be one of the first people (??) through Taiwan. I'm gonna be the 1st ones to use it, that makes it special. I just wanted to join all the craziness. I'm on this before. The new iPad offers only incremental changes over the previous model. A better rear facing camera, the ability to connect to the faster 4g network in North America and an improved retina display. The screen is four times of pixels which in human speak means that pictures look better. Books looks better, Apps are gonna look better too. If you put this tablets side by side with anything else, nothing really compares with right now. And the two years since apple released the very first iPad, more than 55 million have been sold. Experts expect this one to also set records and raise the bar even higher for the competition. In San Francisco, I'm Kara Tsuboi, cnet.com for CBS News
