First Look: Motorola i1 (Boost Mobile)

1:46 /

Though it's far from the best Android phone, the Motorola i1 is a decent touch-screen smartphone for Boost Mobile customers.

>>I'm Nicole Lee, Senior Associate Editor for CNET.com and this is a first look at the Motorola i1 for Boost Mobile. This is the first ever Android smartphone made available to work with the IDEN network which gives it push-to-talk walkie talkie capabilities. On the front is a very nice and colorful 3-inch display. It has a capacitive touch which means it is very responsive. Users Android 1.5 which is kind of an obsolete OS compared to the more recent Android models but it is still usable and we still like it. Like all Android smartphones the home screens are very customizable. You also get these four touch sensitive keys at the bottom here. On the back here is a 5-megapixel camera lens as well as an LED flash. The Motorola i1 is redesigned to be tough. It has a nice rugged exterior with rubber siding. It is military certified to resist extreme temperatures, dust, shock and vibration. Since the i1 is an Android smartphone you get access to the usual Android features like Gmail, Google Talk as well as Wi-Fi and easy exchange e-mail support. The i1 also comes with two different web browsers, the Google Webkit browser as well as Opera Mini. Opera Mini is actually the default browser on the i1 but you can easily switch over to the Google Webkit browser in Settings. Because it runs on an IDEN network the network speeds aren't that fast so we recommend using Wi-Fi whenever you can. The Motorola i1 is available for $350 which may seem like a lot but it is available without a contract. I'm Nicole Lee. This has been a first look at the Motorola i1.
