-I'm Nicole Lee, senior associate editor for cnet.com, and this is the Motorola Brute i686 for Sprint Nextel.
It is practically identical to the Brute i680, its predecessor, except that this phone can be dunked into water up to 1 meter underwater for as long as 30 minutes.
Aside from that, the Brute i686 is definitely a rugged phone like most Nextel phones.
It's clad in hard rubber, thick plastic, so it's made to withstand a variety of hazards.
On the front here, you get the very typical external display.
Above the display, you do get the 2-megapixel camera as well as an LED flash.
On the back here, the battery cover is locked with a locking mechanism to secure the inside from getting wet.
Flip the phone and you get a pretty simple, 2.2-inch display.
The colors, they're only 65,000 colors on here
but that's good enough for simple basic phone like this.
At the bottom of the home screen right here are series of shortcuts and functions that you can toggle easily with the navigation toggle right here.
Underneath that, you do get the number keypads raised above the surface as you can see here.
It feels very nice and rubbery.
You can dial and text easily.
As far as features of the Brute i686 goes, it's pretty simple, pretty basic.
You do get the usual text and multimedia messaging.
You'll also get the aforementioned 2-megapixel camera and camcorder.
There's GPS on here with the Sprint navigation TeleNav support.
There's also stereo Bluetooth, and of course, it has push-to-talk functionality.
The Motorola Brute i686 is available for $120 with a new 2-year service agreement with Sprint Nextel.
