Microsoft's tabletop computing platform moved from concept to reality on Friday, as the first wave of computers hit AT&T Mobility stores in select cities.
>> Hi, I'm Natali Del Conte with CNET TV and we're here with the Microsoft's Surface. We're at the AT&T Store on Madison Avenue and AT&T is now the first company to use the Surface in a commercial way, so we stopped by to have them tell us how. >> Well, this is the -- that really the first application this technology anywhere in the world and we're happy to announce this today. We're actually using the Surface Technology in a retail stores for our Mobility products. ^M00:00:25 [ Music ] ^M00:00:27 >> It allows us to really automate a lot of the sales processes that we have today and actually, really highlight the benefits of all the devices and the capabilities of our phones and our network, but now we can put it all under one device in the middle of the store. We actually have three of here of them here in our Madison Avenue store and our sales reps would just walk a customer up and show him on the maps exactly what our covers look like, both 2G and 3G. ^M00:00:49 [ Music ] ^M00:00:53 >> And then, take the devices and put them on. You can compare and contrast devices and see all of the benefits of AT&T's technology. >> The fantastic thing is that we have an SDK that's in place right now for our commercial partners to use to develop applications for their own environments. And that's really what we want to happen with Microsoft Surfaces that someone looks at their environment and think how do my customers interact with my brand, I'll use Surface to change that interaction. So they can develop applications that are really specific to a casino, to a restaurant, to a retailer in a way that really maximizes the impact of their brand. And that's really the vision for Microsoft Surfaces. We see it just complementing and enhancing the sales experience for our commercial partners. All of our partners are actively engaged in working on developing content. So you'll see over the course of the coming weeks and months and years additional implementation of Microsoft Surface. And eventually, we'll get into the enterprise, into offices, into schools and in three to five years, into the home. So you can imagine, a day walking into your house and having Microsoft Surface at your kitchen countertop and being able to set down your keys and to be able to access information that's relevant to you. ^M00:02:00 [ Music ]
