Microsoft HoloLens meets Legendary movie characters in new demo (Tomorrow Daily 406)

Culture
Greetings citizens of the internet, welcome to Tomorrow Daily, the best viewed talk show in the known universe until next Thursday, upon which we'll be closing down shop here at Tomorrow Daily and creating something fun and new for you to see. I'm Ashley Esqueda, Jeff Cannata is out on a work assignment. And for now, here's your headlines. One day somebody looked at a coffee maker and thought themself, I can make a robot hand out of that. And that's exactly what he did. Evan Booth builds things out of other things, and this time around, he picked up a Keurig K350 Coffee Maker. Disassembled and created Hedberg, a bionic hand. He recently presented a talk at death con about the project called Jittery Macgyver and just under 200 hours went into the build. Booth condensed that 200 hour build Into a five minute time-lapse video on YouTube and he says quote the only none cured materials are adhesive and the 12 volt external power supply on quote. He mentions in the comments the motor ran way to fast with that power supply. So he also had to build a speed controller for the hand. The finished product isn't really pretty. But honestly what exactly are you expecting from a robot hand made out of coffee maker parts. I think it's amazing, high five all around Evan Booth A plus work. Our other story today is about Microsoft who's giving us another view of what can be done with hubble limbs. A new demo for the augmented reality visor is out featuring legendary pictures characters. The idea in the video is to bring 3D models into the real world for both professional and personal enjoyment. For professionals working in film Microsoft thinks HoloLens would be a great option to see renders of characters, new digitally created sets or other computer generated objects. On the personal side of things the company wants people to be able to use HoloLens to import their favorite movie characters into their own real life. Spaces create mixed reality scenes interacting with those characters, and then of course show them to social media. There's a lot of potential here but it still remains to be seen how Hololens plans to overcome hurdles like its small field of view and generating mass adoption of the technology. This is really exciting stuff. Legendary Obviously have some great characters. Pacific Rim, Warcraft, I mean they're doing some amazing stuff so this seems right up their alley. Again, I'm really curious to see what it actually looks like when you are wearing HoloLens as opposed to these sort of pre rendered images that's our full, beautiful, of course Orgrim looks amazing on this video, but in HoloLens you might only Look like you're seeing him through a window a little bit. I don't know guys, you decide. As for Thursday's show, we're actually going to have Christian Spicer, you might know him from the Jeff Kanata and Christian Spicer host and podcast DLC. He's going to be sitting in for Jess, doing the Deep Dive, so Honestly I think we should absolutely talk about HoloLens because I'm curious to see what Christian's take is on everything. If you guys want to get in on the conversation, you can use the #HEYTD. And if we like your tweets, we use them on Thursday's show. So for now, lets check out our Phonetographer for the day. [MUSIC] Our phonetographer for the day today is Nikola who took this picture on a Moto G 2nd Gen. Nikola says hi Ashley and Jeff. I'm sending you a photo I took about a month in Naples with a view of Mount Vesuvius. I actually quite rarely shoot with my crap Moto G 2nd gen but since intense sunlight wasn't an issue in south Italy This one turned out to be the best of them all. Permission to show the picture granted. Greetings from Germany. Nikola from Bulgaria. Nikola, this is a great shot. I mean Mt. Vesuvius, you got Italy it's beautiful, and yes you are correct. Perfect, bold, bright sun light is the solution to a not so great cell phone camara. So, you did a great job snapping this picture. Our theme for the rest of the show, for the run of the show until next Thursday if you have under a week left, the best picture you've ever taken. I'm cherry picking the finest The A+ photos that we're seeing in our inbox. Which you can send to tomorrow@cnet.com. But you've got to do four things. One you've got to tell us how to pronounce your name, even if it's very easy. If your name is Al Tell me how to pronounce it, tell Jeff how to pronounce it. Give us permission to use your photo on the show because the legal department enjoys that. Make sure you tell us a little story about your photo because if it's the best photo you've ever taken there's gotta be a story attached to it. And four, tell us what device you took it on because I love to know what technology you have in your pocket. That is it for today's show. I will be back tomorrow with Christian [UNKNOWN]. You can find me online, I'm Ashley [UNKNOWN] and you can follow CNet at CNet on all of the social media places. And, of course we'll be back tomorrow deep diving into the interception of science fact and science fiction like a delicious [MUSIC] Subway sandwich full of it. Full of the future. Full of the future. But until then, be good humans. See you guys next time. Bye. [MUSIC]
