First Look: Magellan RoadMate Traveler 5175-LM

1:44 /

The RoadMate Traveler has some very cool features that help users to plan and optimize road trips to unfamiliar cities.

I just got back from a pretty long road trip to find this new GPS device Magellan on my deck and I've got to say, I'm kind of wishing I've gotten it before I left. I'm Antuan Goodwin and this is the first look at the Magellan RoadMate Traveler 5175-LM. What makes the traveler interesting is that it's a GPS device with the few features that are targeted towards planning trips and vacations while on the go. It's got a really cool feature called TourDirector which helps you to find attractions, shopping and restaurants when in unfamiliar city. Now you're probably thinking that any old POI database could do this but the TourDirector database includes detailed descriptions of these attractions complete with ratings and an estimate of how long it will take you to enjoy the attraction. So, you can pretty granularly plan a day and save Seattle Washington from the comfort of your hotel room. And not have to worry about if you'll have time to really feel the Space Needle and visit the aquarium. If you're not sure about TourDirector's recommendations, you can also use the Traveler's Wi-Fi connection and web browser to dig up even more information right from the GPS device. Once you've picked your activities, the Traveler's TourDirector came in and optimize the route to minimize travel time and distance. So, you don't waste half of your day going back and forth across town. It looks like I'm going to have a second vacation so that I can put the Traveler's trip planning shops to work. Until I get back, you can check out more first look videos on CNET.com and keep your eyes filled for the fore review of this GPS device right here. I've been Antuan Goodwin giving you a first look at the Magellan RoadMate Traveler 5175-LM.
