First Look: Magellan CrossoverGPS

1:24 /

The Magellan CrossoverGPS is a versatile GPS, offering navigation help to drivers, boaters, and walkers, but it's tripped up by sluggish performance.

[ Music ] ^M00:00:01 >> Hi, this is Bonnie Cha senior associate editor at CNET.com and today we're taking a first look at the Magellan Crossover GPS. This is actually a versatile little GPS system that you can use in the car or on your boat or on foot. It has this little sport guard here to prevent it from serious damage if you happen to drop it. It's also water resistant or splash proof so if it gets wet it should be okay. Overall the performance was a little sluggish and I would say for serious boaters and hikers, I would get a dedicated system. The functionality for the marine and outdoor modes are pretty limited. Actually I also wouldn't want to carry this, on a hike it's a little too bulky. Calculations were kind of slow and also recalculations where slow. I missed a couple turns on our road test and it told me to turn right as I had to make one so that's something to be aware of. Otherwise it also has a music player and a photo viewer but I've never been a big fan of those functionalities on these devices. I don't really see the point of it. If you're on a budget it's around five hundred dollars and it does offer those other functionalities so that's a good choice if you are on a budget. I'm Bonnie Cha and this has been the Magellan Crossover GPS. ^M00:01:11 [ Music ]
