>> Hi, I'm Kevin Massy from CNET Cal Tech. And today we're taking a first look at a very unique car stereo from Jensen. It's the Jensen MP6612I. Doesn't look very unique when you look at the face plate. It's a single bin sized in car stereo, nothing too remarkable about its appearance. It is a motorized face plate unit. So you put disks in by popping down the, the face. The display itself is equally unremarkable. It's a monochrome LCD dot matrix display. Doesn't look very sophisticated. Here is why this is so special. This car stereo has the ability to play almost every conceivable kind of in car media. So let's start with the basics. It plays disks, regular CDs, MP3 and WMA encoded disks. And when playing those back you get the full ID3 tag information. With the addition of what Jensen calls its media link module. This stereo can also be used to play iPods, digital audio tracks from USB drives and from SD cards. Now the media link module is standard with the stereo. But you will need to buy an add on iPod cable if you want to plug an iPod into this. When playing music from USB drives and SD cards, the stereo will read the digital ID3 tag information in much the same way that it does from MP3 disks and display it on the screen. When playing iPods back, the iPod itself is disabled. And what happens is the stereo then becomes the primary interface for the iPod in the car. You can scroll through looking at artists, play lists, songs, using the dial. We do like that. It's very reminiscent of the iPods functionality. And it's also a pretty easy way of searching through long lists of tracks or artists. The final major feature of the Jensen MP6612I is its ability to be used as a hands free calling interface via a blue tooth connection. It has a built in blue tooth connection. You can use it to make outgoing calls and receive incoming calls. You can also use it to browser your phone's address book. You get all this functionality for a price of around 200 dollars excluding the iPod cable which is about another 20, making the Jensen MP6612 a very good value. I'm Kevin Massy and today I've had a first look at the Jensen MP6612I.
