The 13-inch HP Pavilion dv3z offers a reasonable trade-off, choosing battery life and value over performance and weight.
>> Dan: I'm Dan Ackerman and we're here taking a look at HP's Pavilion DV3. Now, 13 inch laptops especially inexpensive ones are always gonna catch our eye because we're pretty fond to saying that a 13 inch laptop is probably the biggest size we'd be able to carry around with us on a regular basis, but also the smallest size we'd be able to kind of sit there and work on all day. So it kind of fits that perfect middle ground between mainstream 15 inch laptops and kind of the ultra portable laptops and the Netbooks. So it's always good to see a low-priced 13 inch system like this DV3 from HP. It starts at around $799, it's highly configurable you can really choose a bunch of different processors, more or less RAM, a lot of hard drive options, but you are restricted to AND processors and, of course, in our testing against other systems that cost the same with Intel processors it's not quite as fast. Like most of the Pavilion lineup from HP right now the DV3 has a bronze tint to it it's got kind of a cross hatched pattern on the keyboard tray, it's got this highly mirrored touch-pad and mouse buttons and it's got this cool touch-sensitive control strip at the top. The little buttons turn orange or blue or white depending on whether you're turning like your WiFi off and on or you're muting the speakers. Now while the DV3 is less expensive than a very popular 13 inch like the MacBook it's also a little bit slower, it's also thicker and heavier. Part of that comes from this gigantic battery on the back that actually lifts the whole system up but the DV3 does get excellent battery life, we got more than 4 hours out of it on our very grueling battery drain tests. Now it's not gonna be the fanciest laptop at the coffee shop but if you love that 13 inch size and we do and a lot of other people do and you don't want to spend a lot of bread check out the HP DV3. ^E00:01:44
