Google Play Music arrives for iOS
Google turns up the volume on the battle of music services.
I'm Bridget Carey and this is your CNET Update.
Google's streaming music app has finally arrived for iOS devices.
Google Play Music for iOS was supposed to come out in the summer after the Android version but it was delayed for months.
Google Play Music lets you store up to 20,000 songs for free online and you can listen using the
app and you can even add your own iTunes Music Library to Google Play.
It also creates customer radio stations, but if you pay $10 a month, that opens up the all-access service, which has unlimited streaming of millions of songs and it works kinda like Spotify.
New users can try all access for free for one month.
The Federal Communications Commission Chairman is fighting to make it easier for you to take your cellphone to another carrier once your contract is filled.
In his first few weeks
as FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has been pushing the wireless industry to unlock customers phones at no extra charge when contracts are done so they can switch providers.
You cannot unlock a phone yourself, that became illegal this year.
Sometimes carriers will do it for you but sometimes they refuse.
If the industry does not voluntarily set a standard, the FCC Chair promises to make it a policy.
AT&T customers will be the first to buy Nokia's Windows 8 tablet, the Lumia 2520.
It goes on sale Friday, November 22nd.
The tablet cost $400 with a 2-year contract and is discounted to $200 if you bundle it with a Lumia smartphone.
AT&T is also giving a $20 credit to the Windows store for those that buy the tablet by early January.
Verizon is gonna sell a tablet as well but it hasn't said a launch date yet.
The Lumia 2520 competes with the service too.
It has the lighter version of Windows that's Windows RT 8.1.
It has
32 gigs of storage, a 6.7-megapixel camera and the battery should last you about 11 hours, but if you need more juice, there's a separate keyboard cover with a backup battery.
Microsoft office and Outlook come with it.
The new Nokia Lumia 1520 smartphone is also launching the same date as the tablet.
And for those of you with a current Lumia Windows 8 phone, Nokia is rolling out a software update that lets phones work with the latest low-energy version of Bluetooth technology.
It's called Bluetooth LE.
It lets you pair your phone with a Bluetooth accessory without draining the battery as fast.
That's your tech news update but you could find more details on the show blog, CNET.com/update and be sure to follow along on Twitter.
