Geek Pop: Kung-fu and zombie strippers

Culture
^M00:00:01 [ Music ] ^M00:00:10 >> Welcome to Geek Pop I'm Molly Wood. >> And I'm Tom Merritt. >> And it is time to give you the scoop on the latest and geeky movies, TV, DVD's and more. >> That's right. We'll help you set your geeky, weekend plans; let's start with the cinema. >> Perhaps you've seen the odd billboard or buff advertisement with insulting messages about this poor Sarah Marshall girl along with some sort of website address. Personally I refuse to fall for this obvious marketing scheme or visit the website, but it turned out it was all for a movie which is in theaters this week. You can now go about your business. >> I will and a much better sounding release is Jet Lei and Jackie Chan team 'em up in... >> The Forbidden Kingdom. >> As you would expect it involves a guy hunting down bootleg Kung Fu DVD's who gets hurdled back in time where he must free the monkey king who's been in prison by the evil Jade Warlord. >> This is insane. >> There's also a band of misfit warriors and a silent monk, standard size. ^M00:01:04 [ Sound effects ] ^M00:01:15 >> Next -- zombie strippers. >> Hey baby, nice to meet you. >> Yeah, meet. >> Opens this week? >> Yep starring Robert England, you know Freddy Krueger. ^M00:01:27 [ Sound effects ] ^M00:01:32 >> Enough said. >> And finally, we are five short weeks away from the May 22 premiere of Indiana Jones, the Crystal Skull, and a new trailer was just released for your viewing pleasure. If you're not excited about this movie, you're alone, you loser. A Fandango poll of 5,000 people voted it the most anticipated movie of the summer. It is expected to gross 1 billion dollars worldwide. >> That's the day before your birthday right? >> Yes it is; good memory Tom. >> I know what I'm getting you for your birthday. >> Harrison Ford doll? >> Thanks for putting in the prompter so I wouldn't forget. >> You know it. >> And I'm also expecting that this movie may save Hollywood this summer with its 1 billion dollar expected worldwide revenues. >> Yeah because it's been a bad year so far. Attendance is down 6.2%. I'm thinking Indy is plenty. >> Yeah and he will save us. >> Yes. >> Oh as it should be. >> All right enough about that. Let's move on to TV. Big news on the Battlestar front; Sci-Fi has announced that they will stream all the new episodes alive every Friday at 12 Eastern at SciFi.com so you can watch that night's episode online hours before it airs. Wholly spoiler disaster Batman. Also BSG creator Ronald Moore gets a new show called Virtuality and surprise it's Sci-Fi and it's set in space. It's kind of, you know, what he does. The pilot got the green light and they're targeting early 2009 for release. >> The Doctor Who's spinoff Torchwood winds up its season on BBC American Friday; at the same time Dr. Who Proper kicks off a new run on Sci-Fi. The new year of Who starts with a 90-minute special starring Kylie Minong [assumed spelling]--yes that Kylie Minong. UK fans will recognize the premiere's The Annual Christmas Special aired in the UK end of last year. The doctor's real new companion, Donna Noble, shows up for the first time in next week's episode. ^M00:03:18 [ Sound effects ] ^M00:03:22 >> Lost fans get good news this week in the only kind of news they ever want in fact, more Lost. The season finale has added an extra hour. It's now being billed as a 3-hour event with 1 hour on May 15 and a 2-hour finale on May 29. They're skipping a week in between and it's apparently because show creators Damon Lindelof and Carlton Hughes convinced the network that the last 2 hours had to be shown together. Whatever; as long as I get an extra hour, I'm not complaining. The series picks back up with new episodes April 24. That's next week in case you're counting. >> And finally, a couple more notes; Code Monkeys returns to G4 for a second season of animated fun starting Sunday the 20th; the best part about that is the theme song, and South Park finishes up its 12th season on Comedy Central Wednesday, the 23rd. >> Wednesday the 23rd, once again with my birthday. Oh no that's April. >> No your birthday is in May. >> I have my birthday on the brain. Finally let's finish up with some DVD's. >> On the shelves in, I don't know the envelopes? Anyway it's out this week Aliens versus Predator Requiem. Two iconic monsters battle it out over a Midwestern town. Why don't they just agree to split it? >> Dude, all I have to say about this is yes--more alien, more predator, more gore, more dead Midwesterners. >> Why can't they just get along? >> They don't have to. >> They're both outsiders. >> He doesn't understand. That's it for this week everybody. Thank you for watching the Geek Pop. >> See you next week. >> Bye. ^M00:04:46 [ Music ] ^M00:04:51
