How To Video: Find out if someone is stealing your Wi-Fi

Sharon Vaknin shows you how to enable a program that alerts you each time someone logs into your Wi-Fi network.

Hey, Guys. I'm Sharon Vaknin for CNET and hacking WiFi Network is a lot easier that it sounds. All a hacker needs is a few minutes of their time and you would never know someone is taking a free ride on your WiFi. If your connection is consistently slow, you might guess that someone is stealing your internet, but today I'll show you how to find out for sure. With Wireless Network Watcher, you can get notified each time someone logs on to your WiFi Network. To get started, download and install Wireless Network Watcher from Download.com. Once its installed, launch it. Click options and then select beep on new device and background scan. This way you'll be notified each time someone logs on to your network with allowed beep. Back in the main screen of the application, press the play button or hit at five and the program will begin scanning for devices the network. Now if someone like my colleague Lynn La here connects to my WiFi Network, Wireless Network Watcher will alert me that she's connected with a loud ding. It should work automatically, but if nothing happens, head to options then advanced options, check the box here at the top and select your network card from the drop down list below. If Wireless Network Watcher helps you realize someone is stealing your internet connection, the first step would be to change your password. Not only are they eating up your bandwidth, but they could also potentially access your personal data. If you have any questions, send me a Tweet on Twitter and follow my Facebook page for more tips like this. For cnet.com. I'm Sharon Vaknin.
