CNET News Video: Even Robin Williams' daughter isn't safe from Twitter trolls

2:00 /

Internet trolls targeted Robin Williams' daughter, sending her cruel messages and gruesome pictures on Twitter. As CNET's Kara Tsuboi explains, Zelda Williams abandoned her Twitter and Instragram accounts, but not before firing back and sending out a statement about her father.

[MUSIC] Zelda Williams who used Twitter to pay homage to her father, after his death was announced has abandoned her Twitter and Instagram accounts. Her final tweet read, "I'm sorry. I should've risen above. Deleting this from my devices for a good long time, maybe forever.". Time will tell, good bye. Twitter suspended three accounts responsible for sending her cruel and insensitive images and comments. On her Tumbler page Zelda Williams posted what she said will be her only statement about her father, writing about her last day about him. To those harassing her she wrote. As for those who are sending negativity, know that some small, giggling part of him is sending a flock of pigeons to your house to poop on your car. Right after you've had it washed. After all, he loved to laugh too. The supportive and positive messages on social media have far outweighed the negative. Captain, my captain. Sit down Mr. Anderson. Mimicking an inspiration scene from Dead Poet's Society people are tweeting pictures with the hashtag O Captain My Captain. On Robin Williams' official Facebook page a memorial post has now garnered more than two million likes and it's been shared around 300,000 times. Facebook has become a condolence book of course. Everyone from Jennifer Lopez, Quincy Jones, Jimmy Fallon, Chevy Chase, and Kevin Spacey, to NASA and the White House, have posted heartfelt tributes to the comedian and Oscar-winning actor. I mean, you're perfect right now. Maybe you don't wanna ruin that. Goodwill Hunting co-star Ben Affleck posted this message that read in part, "Heartbroken. He made Matt and my dreams come true. What do you owe a guy who does that? Everything. Help is on the way dear! Fans looking to watch Williams' most iconic movie performances are turning to streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime, leaving no doubt that Williams' legacy will live on.
