Ep. 1310: HDCP cracked like a nut

Culture
This Friday September 17 2010 I'm Jason Howell ivory Palin I'm Hollywood love and a buzz out -- CNET podcast -- -- -- -- episode thirteen 110 and we're very excited because we have. In studio. All the way from London -- links and formerly at CNET UK now the editor of wired dot Kodak UK yes -- about the. Yeah. I -- thanks for coming back thank you behind me it's great I think this is the fifth summit -- well in the first on the -- -- Barrett -- -- well yeah you're gonna be on stage -- an -- guy. Never -- it's worth the trip isn't it. It is with Victoria Canada -- like he's totally with the idea is nothing if not majestic glorious it's different -- -- the edge conditions and it really is actually quite cool and -- -- -- -- And where we're just gonna put him to work through and tech means like we do here on the show. The first we didn't show with the answer it. I think I believe so yeah wasn't State's 2007. Man and went -- Welcome back I don't think that I have done so with -- since that I think we should shame I was on the 999. That the sediment that. Think you -- -- been that but I diamond ring. And I know it remembers the episode before episode one yeah. And after 1000 -- -- -- ever will hit the left and I love that if so that's a good I kept the video -- -- upsetting so far so cool the Internet. -- let's do the news Verizon. Apparently will not be getting not only the iPhone but. Windows phone seven which it was announced yesterday will be GSM only in 2010. Microsoft saying of course that you know there is another whole planet here to worry about you know the US rise in market -- and -- let -- everybody -- how well will be on eighteen he or T-Mobile -- -- But won't -- this is actually pretty big and it's not very good news for Verizon I don't. The right thing nickname is long and you know 2011 we'll have the windows phone seven. It -- -- people really like Verizon and they really want these. Well they want the iPhone. I mean I think everybody wants -- Apple thought -- -- that's been a complaint about Verizon for years in the US this is like that the other services rock solid their customer service is great man I mean am -- I hit Harrelson we don't have Verizon obviously yeah but don't need for this and now we've talked we have so many networks we have seven. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Ha for everybody who sent me nasty emails when -- -- TDMA with the dead or dying technology this is just further proof of that because we all know I think. Reading between the lines the subtext here. Is that Microsoft is waiting for LT just the same Apple and that you will -- Windows phone seven devices on Verizon when -- -- and makes the switch to LT. As my assumption because -- -- why would you if you were developing new feature rich phones that you wanted to be globally available. Filled with -- version it's sort of just feels like a waste of manufacturing. Time like sufficient it I guess it's Microsoft couldn't get that partner deals and harder manufacturing deal together have them built the GSM -- the TDMA phones. People are more -- GSM phones will exactly yeah there's no there's just no reason I -- -- marketplace there's zero reason to create a brand new. Platform unseat him -- what we're saying essentially is that with the current technology rights and it's treading water. Yet they -- but -- I mean they're not. President not treading water because they are actually deploying LT. And they say what the impact -- -- they're gonna be in thirty cities by the end of this year. And that's what they've announced they mean by 2011 I think they will have a legitimate LT infrastructure and I think that's when you'll see those device there public it is in the meantime is -- to little I'm -- I what does it is producing and using WiMax and they -- the -- -- Eva is even yet print if you Indiana. One acts so -- my -- what they also said recently that they're starting to creep in counties like don't worry you I'm actually still IQ we just kinda wanna Hubble looked at LT store. Yeah yeah I did -- -- into its LT at some -- this in trials going -- of the moment and some towns little it's a it's a weird time in high speed wireless right now we're gonna and then -- we have this thing if it up new white space. Technology coming out -- -- so many different ways to to move things -- and three G. I don't -- the other day and sent her a definite that I'm over. Really for -- into an Atlanta area they've just started -- -- of -- -- totally can't get in the city proper and -- -- and the surrounding area critical it's possible. Microsoft also said that it is going to go ahead and stick to its core businesses mainly software and then leave the hardware it's an -- people and they are not doing anymore phones after that came thing I and. I think this is the lesson that can told Microsoft -- cannot make -- way. I get windows phone seven looks amazing that can mean if I the last time I was here it was for the can launch at but hang on the -- because women who might really don't need yeah whoo -- Because in any off the max he. -- -- -- Biggest that's the sad thing about Microsoft -- -- hardware totally Xbox is great. Does my wallet largely our Zune HD. They just -- channels yet just let the Zune division making -- bonus is what we were trying to sell them for years. Don't have a lot of cross over there are personal growth overruns in the phones now we should they have silence they have -- encased in. You know miles of cements -- cannot. Speak to each other. It's ludicrous. -- -- I would what this means that I'm the danger acquisition because that whole point was you know basically making the phones and and and and things -- -- -- so of those guys gonna put it didn't think they bought danger. A long time ago I went ahead and assume that they have absorbed all the brain power all the people probable danger and put them on other products project recommend like. Forget about -- side well yes they -- was McCain was the result you know as the baby no that that Microsoft and danger if created. Well. -- wasn't. The -- was not a bad habit that aren't bad devices at all they are like Natalie breasted look very capture don't you fat -- and the -- -- delicate little in this country -- -- -- it. It was just too expensive statement that counts and -- and even worse is that they could have. They can only make the phone so cheap and it still would have been settled with insanely -- generate -- it was a that was it total a carrier. Pricing fiasco yet they should've had that dates -- -- price of the phone and it should have games I mean why would you make -- -- to teenagers and you know guys in the twenty's and not put apps and games and it I mean we've just got used to playing games and -- this this argues against. Silent businesses regatta carrier business Harvard business analysts business and argues for real integrated businesses that then you can control your -- ha yeah. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- But had they just done a Zune phone I think right out of the gate and been successful with that they wouldn't now be that gun shy yeah if they made it that Zune HD a phone. Nothing would -- hole right. Yeah I think that anybody can stick a student on it give it inducements and I mean it looks like -- and seven and he kind of took the witness and -- -- and sort of put a lot of -- design ethos of that. -- -- -- -- -- -- See amazing front and -- -- I didn't totally agree it's just a lost opportunity although I will say I think that windows phone seven looks really prime. Unfortunately it's an exciting thing though it's great because you know. Google and Apple we need them to have serious competitors that are like have different mindset. And when it's on seven different -- that look like or not it'll force the these other guys to you know -- pressure which is great. Yet in other sort of cellphone -- but not exactly Samsung revealed yesterday. That the Android based galaxy -- will be available on all four carriers. So they are doing it TDMA version which is kind of instinct although pricing and release dates. For the tab we're still not officially announced yesterday when nobody can keep track of presenters are dropping so fast even though they said it will be available in time for the holidays so I think that they and -- and and may have a story today that that. Tablet now down to the yesterday we talked about how -- went up on Amazon UK for 799. And then went down 629 and -- educating our aren't good at math is roughly 9000 dollars US. And now it's on a 599 -- -- dot com. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- I think is -- the right so they aren't in the -- us some Japan's be delivery. And they also say really due for release on -- in November. Lou Poconos and its parent -- -- -- has 799 dollars today and I think -- -- -- all -- -- map because unfortunately. I hate. The fact that it's true that's totally right -- it would is that it's just all about something I think interiors and it all look at -- -- carriers have this in the US at least. They they certainly don't appear to be counting on Annie and subsidized market all I'll be -- in case something I will be extremely suspicious of all four carriers released this product at roughly the same price with roughly the same data rates they all do that anyway that's. And -- -- -- ceaselessly colluding they're shamelessly colluding on Smartphone pricing on data pricing I mean come -- I haven't started work yet they they I mean this is gonna be unlocked from played it comes you can but -- -- in the next couple GSM. Citizen and that H on the planet -- where's my global -- -- Google Voice simmer some announcements of VIP. Yeah there ago. Skype community voices you so they haven't they asked the sixteen gig version of the 32 gig version I don't know when there actually going to announce pricing at. I don't know wealthy I mean you know the really only -- -- possible. Yeah go to the order for Christmas and a blank check and -- and -- thing wouldn't it repairs and a movie comes out and don't know reviews -- given before -- -- -- okay we're not go let you know the real the definitely who are top secret thirst for all things reverend -- heron says that November 16 -- -- -- -- -- have it. So mark our words. There -- -- for today they throb. Speaking of leaks all of my goodness. We predicted that the MPAA would go nuclear and we're still waiting for it happen because Intel has confirmed that. That the HD CP master key. Is legit. Now the HD CP master key is the source. Encryption key or or copy protection key that lets devices that play modern high Def content Blu-ray content communicate with each other and prevent you from. Putting a sniffer something into the data stream and making a copy stuff -- watch a Blu-ray. Disc you put in your H -- -- bugler player connector HD CP. TV and you can see that but nothing else that's connected to those devices that's not license can get that content copy -- well if you have this key. Then you can build devices to get access to the full on digital stream. Right and ideals and potentially you could even and that's probably tens and -- jailbreak your existing -- as you can flash there and firmware and and use this key. You get access to that. Now this -- has been broken. Or somebody has that's fountain -- -- and the master key speaker that it or got it out of a file with something and posted it. So now the key is out there anybody can build devices to get the stream -- It it's it's a colossal leak everybody's involved in this is very upset the -- whoever -- -- going to be pretty mad about this the thing about this not the thing about this is really bizarre. Is that this is this. Key is the single point of failure in the whole. In HD CP system -- is one key. And when they built this system. They never built a way to receive all devices with there's no method for receding all devices and in the world with an ambulance and any kids like you build a house and you embed the key the lock to the front door in concrete work can't be changed -- tearing down in our house. It's it's it's the -- -- -- Leo -- actually. -- -- -- -- -- Colossal -- bizarre that they didn't think that this key this one key that's one piece of data might leak and jeopardize the whole system ever have to consider that. They've been so arrogant about DRM all along because the other thing that the HD CP. Keep -- the other thing and HD CP does aside from preventing you from making a copy is frequently prevent you from being able to play your freaking Blu-ray discs. If your hardware is not if your entire home theatre set up. Is not completely compatible across the board in fact when avatar came -- on Blu-ray people that older players -- actually had to wait. Sit there and wait like chumps for -- firmware upgrade. To their own player so that they can play that dvd -- -- like the fact that this existed at all much less than it was so stupid in kind of ultimately. Fatally flawed. Is is ridiculous and oddly you don't see the NPA freaking out about it yet and it's partly because this is really hard -- anybody want -- high quality copy of a Blu-ray movie at this point is gonna go get. Hundreds link there available it's not like anybody has really been waiting for like a tip that they can insert and then flash the firmware and you know. Well -- that maybe this is a good example of how restricting people -- trying to. Protect the content stream never works it's it's not it's not sustainable and in mean. I am completely agree with -- think this is the holy he HD CP concept is anti consumer minute pat rights. I'm still staggered on the other hand how how much they've bungled it. Yeah well I'm glad that it should but but I am -- I mean yet I will say they did not -- but it has excellent. Implication that he's been around a long time this tactic what ten years or something do we know you actually cracked it anonymous an anonymous -- -- that guy right anonymous is like old if if -- mean that's the other thing -- is that this unlike administrative jailbreak or something is. Totally protected by the -- -- terms of legal recriminations that -- I can -- people building and selling boxes. And furthermore the key. Is 300 and -- long -- can't -- that a teacher. Well we hate pants off. And -- feel like getting it tattooed on a public -- and yeah again and think I Linda and regent -- that day every single story is not code -- very always Eric. Hackers there. Interesting is coming out today research from and PD saying that after six months of decelerating growth. US retail -- book. Growth actually. Bell went negative fell 4% every year every year an -- and marking the first time that those numbers actually on negative they're -- notebook growth is down. And -- -- that it is tablets cannibalizing them tablet in particular although I think it's. Economy but okay well that -- Plus saturation plus -- computers are fast enough from people but idea you can't discount fact that you people who are looking for May be a second laptop. Yeah homes for their but -- needs a laptop and now has one they've built in for second minute and ancillary machine then you're gonna look let's start an iPad or album yeah. I am Morgan Stanley and the CEO -- Bible attributed it directly to you. The iPad best -- -- -- on an internal estimates and the iPad -- cannibalize sales from laptop PCs by as much as 50%. That's huge I wants a blank -- web apps. And yet the case. Typically when you upgrade your machine you agree need to get fast approaches and things like that's human more apps these things are already in the browser numbers are things I do -- a daily basis and in the browser that you know. Even have an announcement achievement the president that -- -- -- Evernote in yeah. And and -- Yes it is these -- -- sufficient you can -- police whether it's a different tabs and things so. And and and maybe that's that's the small -- Canada well that doesn't know what that computers are fast enough. -- that -- -- -- that -- -- and the browsers now efficient more efficient in memory and you can -- -- and you can you email you very aware of processing you can deal as an -- -- to -- that's so. All this stuff can just run -- browsing in him and that's wonder if that may have had a tiny impact not that great but. That's a possibly oh absolutely well I mean I think netbooks were kind of the result of that move right which is that people didn't need to be -- nobody really except for gamers needed to be buying as much computing power as we have been buying over the last few years. And -- it netbooks -- sort of a response to that and and a temporary response they industry and like them. You know nobody like the margins on -- and I think everyone is waiting for kind of the right -- -- delivery system but I think it. I -- -- your right the idea that it is strictly iPad sales. Causing this much cannibalization -- probably silly because otherwise than they would solve a lot more to mature it's a maturing market maturing market. I mean that sales of automobiles also slow down cause everybody at the car. And music are has -- well there will be other Israeli and our utilities and a you know the same thing like when when CD and dvd sales start to slow down and industries like. See maybe it's just that every time their place other tapes and VHS cassettes. You know we're -- -- with the the industry gets the laptop industry now here -- and the market which is lighten up and make up for girls you know. Or Dell how -- I may get -- laptop that is supposedly a public public -- tablet you know just to convertible African laptop and the look at it tablet. Yet I'm still just astonishment that -- where all we are also continuously astonished at how many people still use Yahoo! mail but big deal though even though none of us in this room GO. The world was fired up because the new Yahoo! mail beta has -- -- I haven't even traits. Who -- we haven't seen yet. It's that people -- it's faster. It's less spam me. Yeah -- -- at Athens and -- like banning it also it's also the biggest mail client in the world apparently it is like you know it. It's not a geek mail client and so it we -- we tend to gloss over its importance in the market with its huge everyone uses government how many emails you get at it from Yahoo! accounts versus Gmail. Month -- It's weird. It does it will have an account -- now have -- the ability to view and update your FaceBook and Twitter pages from -- which is -- and it'll also have video and photo sharing tools. A new version of messenger easier -- as a -- and -- use InBoxer that I'm working on the integrated inbox for quite awhile it. Which is good may have -- SMS I remember a while ago those of popular series of web sites and letting you send free text yeah. So that building that -- nothing that was was it like that's the used often you'd send -- -- free text messages from like custom pages of and may be and that was the only reason I use like. And is -- going -- about seven years eight years but. That's good news and -- like that and Gmail has you can send texts from their -- the other saying it's been re -- -- from the ground up if they get it I mean. The problem with Yahoo! is unfortunately every time they roll out and change to mail. All of their users who are by and large not super geeky users lose their ever loving mind and Yahoo! and -- -- -- like roll -- -- bunch of features so it's like -- -- related inspections -- -- little -- -- I hate that I am mad about that that's the inertia that's the problem with web upgrade with web apps is. People is the forced upgrades and it causes companies to. Slow down their innovation because he got 151000500. Million users and you make any change in everybody's -- like -- stop we can handle it. Got a higher like a whole you know college graduating class of people who -- customer support for a week yeah. Interesting collection of stories coming out today about group on the the group on backlash has begun. It started with a broad -- to deal that showed up on group on -- which showed apparently how easy it is to kind of that to misrepresent what you're actually able to sell. And replies well people are are accepting or putting deals out there for things they can't possibly be liver -- Now that doesn't mean that they're going to make all that money because I don't think group on pays. That they're -- they're small business customers until a certain -- who in his redeem rate but it it does. Put it does let businesses fortunately compete with other businesses who -- you know perhaps not -- -- -- deals. We'll talk like they're using group on as. Yellow pages -- -- -- advertising thing you know so they can -- -- deal that they have no intention of ever being able to fulfill that everybody find out about in any case -- -- -- -- -- -- It is a website that lets you. It -- -- how to explain the critical mass part of but it offers coupons for services or like restaurants or whatever sort of be like you get a hundred dollars with the food for 25 dollars. But only as long as a certain number of people sign up for that deal right and so it that's what -- group. On -- So if if -- 150 AV sign up an ideal then you'll all be able to get that when the hundred dollars with that for my basically you pay full price for yoga -- today you're not using. Right exactly don't and people I mean you're going crazy like about like three different -- things that I've never used in big they make other money because -- violent crap and and he. Didn't -- dollars and into. But -- but now there's a little bit of backlash coming in addition -- not only from some users are feeling like -- Are these deals even legit but from some of the small businesses. Who have signed up for group on -- thinking that it would be really great advertising right and then found that it is. Taking a huge chunk out of their bottom line. While cute I like this this some cafe or something called -- up an organ. They put a group on up there and that they put a good deal up. And they capped the number of people that they would accept that that at more than they could deliver -- and in a given -- so somebody came in past the expiration -- -- they had civic customer you know we can't think this we're losing money. And you know those -- difficult customer relations issue and then the person did this who wrote a big long. Blog post about how this was a mistake to do this -- deal. Yes she said that there was not a cap and that was the problem I think it -- that they admit that no group on will not allow you to. So she called a group punches and they sold nearly a thousand or ponds for this -- -- for the cafe and then talk to Lucinda and group on and -- is there cap. On how many were sold. And the simplest there was no she said when you sign up for group on your -- to sell as many as gets old and why would group I'm on any -- -- -- -- they get half the earnings will but then as a result this business has a ton of people coming in who aren't spending enough money. And she's -- there have been times the one her at this blog -- -- cafe. But but there were times and they couldn't make payroll and rent because of losing so much money from all these -- but then Andrew at. Group on down posted on his blog and the group pump blog saying basically that's not true a group on has always have policy to allow merchants to cap deals. The interesting thing about Andrew's post on this was -- he he took the poses owner to task for misusing group on -- public blog posts. So obviously group on its growing very fast. Businesses don't really understand apparently how to. Limited. And manage it correctly because they're getting his massive influx of people at prices that they can't -- man. Group on here the group on management is. I think. In a bit of a knee jerk reaction here in -- customers. Well yes yes and no right yeah I mean they there's group I was attacked -- -- So this woman wrote a blog post about how group and -- causing -- to practically have to close their doors. And group and respond publicly which I think is an in kind response he also -- they've reached out to this woman and and are trying to work it out. When I mean I think it's fair for them to respond to think they're saying right. We have this policy like this blog post as we don't but we do then I don't think that's -- I have a ton of it to the live cool. Defensive considering that -- the big that they they have their in the -- -- -- group on is that well loved by its users and users. And by the tech community so. There was -- here but I like the senate this thing that we -- that we have this in the UK but as I like pretty good. Pretty good idea if you go to my Federalist don't get it to be tackled something other -- just goes together and buys it and -- cheaper because you put it must yeah. Yeah I think it -- the very clever it is brilliant yes. Edit it if I mean really like it up to everybody too involved to make sure that they can they can -- so -- group -- -- we can clearly communicating in fact they can have a cap. Then -- continue to do that meant business can make their choices appropriately -- for use like for an office and he's -- got some sweet deal -- about it. Three. The first look at I I if we're going to -- you -- After a back door. First look -- I was or played key which is the -- update that is really iPad focus but all the right I'm an iPad iPod Touch. Are starting to come out. You'll get. I want one -- -- I don't -- -- I'm -- alone it was promised for September and announced November. Yeah it'll make the iPad actually useful useful as well lot of fun and listening when this is this announced I thought man yet most -- recalled that when you get a -- iPhone -- you need -- used to it and then you go that's the iPad like them. What is wrong with this thing why is closing my apps store closing mine maps and it's the multitasking can be huge but it also you know -- get. YouTube voting in coupled things like that it's time Lincoln messages that. There are new restriction blink in the good way that you can prevented the leading app store software which I totally need to cosmic significantly things all the time to the -- that -- the link below -- shaken and they have to jiggle -- yeah like you can't play. Angry birds are now if you accidentally deleted it from -- iPad after them all well have a little trouble and this other thing here -- these are the we tong today. The big first look on this but yeah and in there there there are new thing's gonna that we haven't reported -- much lately like -- -- what's that. Yes so it'll have a little bit more music support with them -- I mean I that I'm thinking this leaches into garage band on. I -- which would be fantastically. You know even even if not just -- to create music but to be able to take that editing with you mean -- powerful enough to run. You know some time -- judgment if they've got -- -- by the I would stuff on that and you know it totally makes -- together. Yeah I actually garageband and I've had seen in its. -- -- great as a lot of really cool just audio -- in general being rated -- -- the iPad sentenced to expand. What -- be able to -- obviously understandable that tied in with hardware rates means that the I think as a can allow physical midi instrument connectors and then people can and then although the 98 at of them mobile DJ raised a you know being -- -- -- that make them even -- -- it would allow it allows Apple to come up with the new. Adapter so it's -- freaking USB thing on this the voice mail wireless. My museum -- like Alia Bluetooth guitars youth. I just -- because we -- think -- and how do I actually think Iraq on -- -- you say damage done garbage man it'll we let your British Smith we do over here and a lot of that. The thing that I will say that I know. Maybe Meehan Brian Tong and only people who are mad about this but the thing that I us were going to you it does is it changes that -- -- Lock screen switch into the volume. The mute switch. Because they aren't jerks like -- LY. But you are they have this thing and it does the thing and I love the thing to lock screen is like the most useful feature of the -- having to constantly. Especially for reading and their dislike. They're just changing it now into the mute button whenever they're not what it does on -- iPhone -- No I know they don't you can't just released over the one feature and and make -- do the other thing -- there's no reason flight to do is hold down the volume thing for a second and it goes commute. It's redundant. And. Also -- That is if it's -- change that could. No you don't need to respond -- I find it annoying yes. There are also rumors we've been ignoring the story all week long that I that Apple might get a newspaper subscription service. Thing but they're not -- -- included setting. For you to change it back. Like if you're gonna do that put a setting in the software that socially you can configure this -- to be whatever you want O Steve Jobs we'll never let you have the -- the way you want to you know he does the buttons the way he wants exactly that. Anyway -- There's an article San Jose Mercury News saying that Apple may be ready to take the wraps off a new system -- some sort support subscriptions. Mainly newspaper subscriptions now. This is just. Another layer of their commerce engine where you can buy things. And -- be delivered you know one every day here subscription -- what's. Interesting and important about this for the newspaper industry. Is that the newspapers will be able to report these subscriptions as part of their paid circulation which is what they report to the advertisers never tires -- -- what drives how much money they make from ads. So that is actually really big deal for the newspaper industry. And nobody else really -- -- can -- be able to -- the New York Times or whatever newspaper you want an iPad which penny which is why we and. Hard for I mean this announcement officially reported by math -- the Mac couldn't. Under the voicemails YouTube didn't tell -- that 106166. Create. -- called and he might be like a little more upset than strictly necessary about -- windows on them militants but -- Below is reading and -- Hollywood and I'm just calling the -- because I'm not sure what to do panic -- To have them upon prefer it over a year. Been waiting for the windows phone seven and now I heard it's only a matter on. AT&T. So let's see there the razor blade or the -- -- -- and a what do you think. RAZR Alitalia and I got away from the blade may eat at any rate -- phone the Motorola RAZR. I don't think so yeah I don't think yet to go all India -- is -- feed on up there and -- like it's a little it's -- beat it's gonna be fine the and if you need to Poehler and her review does wait -- -- -- version. It was valid email that was the Emo -- -- -- it's just that men. Not worth it or not about it our jobs yeah in fact Jim wrote in to let us know that may be like -- little -- worked up to you because I don't see a problem of Lincoln a galaxy with contract that carriers. We do that -- phones anyway and I upgraded my phone for this phone tablet hybrid as sure as heck wouldn't carry my old phone anymore I do the same situation and now with my phone except that would have. The galaxy the -- -- vote on the market that is also a tablet. And many also says that as for the radio and cellphone lava -- -- an homage -- -- And your eight hours a day in mostly with my HDT I love the fact that aren't hearing other device with me everywhere -- -- left to stream the broadcasts for eight hours straight how much data with happy. All very good points but it still doesn't need to be -- The law now -- c'mon if he didn't have to have a cellphone contract that is ultimately gonna cost you 2000 dollars -- the length the life of the device. When you prefer to not have a contract it sounds like. For Jim the market is actually solved the technology situation the way he wants it to so we don't eagle. Well I've got Catholic area -- terms of that and terms that -- -- radio thing and I think like there's no reason that you couldn't use the galaxy to replace your own. You just shouldn't have to be tied to a contract to get a reasonable price for it like that is a scam. We get pre pay guests in just an UP patent not only -- not -- that. You can in the UK -- be a folder. It up to. Doug from Dallas Texas says as most -- -- in episode thirteen and nine you mentioned that the -- nine beta will not run on windows XP. As a web developer of a high traffic website I see that as a potential problem I know Microsoft has been trying to encourage individuals and businesses to upgrade to Windows 7 and that's great. But not only are people slowed upgrade their OS they are painfully slow -- upgrading their browsers. My site so it's over two million visitors a month from I. XP I wish that I. But not allowing IE nine to run an XP there's even less incentive from a -- And I will have to continue the difficult job of supporting that awful browser. That's a really good point monetarily not helping itself and its desire to kill I. The really interesting dilemma there -- yeah. Legacy against it both ways and think -- -- -- -- opens.
