Ep. 1294: Web: there's an app for that

Culture
These technologies and how -- field and I'm Darren Kitchen I'm Molly Wood log in above the allowed in a podcast and an Internet link that's episode 129 before the web is abuzz today with news that the web is dead. The -- eating itself. Eleventh taught in a little bit of a little bit and a -- -- circled the well wait you tell you the -- at the web has become self referential that never happen. Okay but yeah the best to let -- about that actually was wired declared the web -- on their highly profitable website it's a good path. Actually it's the cover story as well but it's it's making the rounds on the web Chris Anderson and Michael Wolf they're very -- story showing a graph of how. We -- the traffic is becoming smaller and smaller portion of Internet traffic and I think the Internet that right just just the web. Well but it and you know what I have to admit OK let me just say -- -- -- -- has quietly and acquired less than her primary writers really only need to read the first page of its five page. Okay -- a long after about a half kind of a little Chris Anderson love. But it in eight he's basically making the point that apps. And much more simpler targeted services. That are Internet powered but not on the web are what people are embracing using and that the web itself is less and less. Important. With -- we've -- actually currently tour 08. Valid point and if you think of Google -- historically as a web company which -- has an -- that its money up web. It explains why -- pushing so hard into mobile devices and phones. Because that is the future it is not of the web -- say it is it data over the Internet and that's where Google through apps and phone devices is going to be. Have its future. Not to mention -- other non web surpluses don't but they let that Google in particular that's -- -- -- -- Noticed -- not just what Google Earth are gonna did you other non web stuff the -- -- -- right but forget DNS. Yes and then they might possibly have an internal -- seat. Who knows me -- got to go for -- right and probably -- ftp every graduated you know. So he's saying the web experience -- -- -- -- RSS speed in a reader you've got Skype and I am conversation -- perhaps you're listening to pandora a playing games on Xbox Live you're watching movies on Netflix streaming service. Although if not for Norton man in the -- has a really great point which is a big FaceBook probably disagrees. About the web -- -- -- there's certainly no I think that this is a far reaching kind of prediction that's probably. All the web is not going to be says Dominic. So the argument is that the web is dead because we're all using apps right -- his you know the iPhone and little departments changing the whole landscape with. You know the -- stuff now and what -- we use apps. Or because the mobile web sucks so much that we have. To -- you know they are all just pulling data from the web diluted FaceBook app and it's got everything except for your actual feed so when you. Click the news feed all -- to do is grab that not. You know all of the html and everything that's built into the -- so it's still -- -- -- me over port eighty probably familiar using web still the web and all all this does is reinforce the fact that we are more more going wireless and more more wireless -- -- Noah and to -- thing we're also moving to semi closed platforms it's the and in their Internet driven marriage different from. Right the web -- a web application that runs on the Internet or platform on top of the Internet which is the Apple platform and at an. But what's what's also -- thing about this is that the Anderson chart which shows web traffic as a percentage of Internet traffic declining. Is pretty. Convincingly taken apart are going going who shows absolute traffickers poster relative traffic and they show how the web web traffic they propose. While may be declining in a proportion is actually absolutely increasing the people are spending more time on lab yes -- also spending way more time on video services. On apps on computer here etc. so. Those web traffic is going up just matters because everything else their -- a smaller proportion which is not that that is not a graph of a dying. Section will know this this Graff also shows between 1995 -- 2006 the amount of web traffic going from ten terabytes a month to you. What is this a million terabytes a month so but then again at the same time web pages have gotten bigger bandwidth -- gotten. Well increase to mean you've got things like YouTube so just you know watching YouTube alone -- -- when a web traffic rank and over eighty. Yeah exactly yeah yeah yeah I'm -- I think I think it I think dead is just click -- but. The point that the web is no longer going to be -- be the dominant or. Only platform I mean eventually get in -- in -- Words 50000. Through a 100000 other residents -- -- and five he talked about how it's really just the death and -- monopoly. Which of course that -- you know I mean I think but and I think it's an important point that the semi closed platforms are the ones that are taking -- place and is that necessarily good for. Yeah like are we -- those because they're simpler and or because they're less and with intent of an -- on their -- -- -- -- and -- absolutely keep getting -- that. Where is your Hak5 app for Android for -- -- -- -- -- we've -- -- website. And I hate other people that think that we can't. We get that all the time the things people for some reason people want apps because they make it work better now that it -- and if it's not that -- -- more bandwidth efficient that they mask band -- in efficiency through pretty -- button right. We're -- -- whatsoever to they all they do is frustrating because you get most except for which you really want and the -- and watch and Robert's been around it don't you -- -- Google docs app for Android like I know I can -- -- at google.com on my browser on my Android phone but it's a pretty Google phone while -- instruments -- because I'm going to scream right to an excellent don't want that I want and for that like the I mean. That's what how did you just like the mobile Leavitt doesn't work in it and the browsing is not in it's just not mean. Partly yes it's a failure of development but -- but you know there's a reason that -- -- this is not. Those interfaces don't translate very well and and apps -- the way that the translation happens for mobile devices -- -- -- -- I'd prefer them. I agree I'm with them -- prefer them. And but -- acknowledges will stay the same route regardless and we're it would there are all still inner facing with the web is not like when Dave is the -- -- -- You know what actually we're just gonna keep the focus and and that's the whole website they don't the whole dichotomy between -- the web and app -- Because there are applications that are half -- that they use the web the Internet I mean what what is an app. I mean not to. -- -- -- Okay yeah because that it becomes it because you don't -- -- -- eleventh HTTP. I mean you know it will now remember you can -- -- Internet and web this article and then there's a distinction between web and -- right but many apps use the protocol -- they just run it. And it's like you thank trying to say it's semi closed system point yes that is the difference yeah I mean already transparently look at Chrome it doesn't even have the HTTP anymore they got rid of it he -- and I don't you have -- -- -- the and the servers -- all the same. It'll even more confusing but what we commend you factor that some web sites. Like like FaceBook for example have a mobile site -- -- touch site they have a website and they have their -- -- I guess I can't help us. Don't forget light that his -- her a good one and I'm just emailed -- to -- -- Cuba and they're all around and all running on his name servers yeah the data's there it is -- aggravation as you don't -- a patent foundation. -- -- is going to be okay can be. By and don't panic about declarations that the web or anything else is dead because as Harry McCracken so cleverly points out on technology as -- today. Everything on though on that everything in the technology world has at one point or another been declared. The dead for example yes Internet Explorer in 2004 totally -- -- -- and especially your computer oh for sure. I'm back in 2005. Point eight and now when Apple announced the switch to Intel processors that died in February 2006 office was still dead offices so that email is dead I -- 2007 email us died a thousand deaths failure but it -- no way I did not know if it were tied in -- way I -- -- -- -- -- like Khatami. Firefox may already be dead as of march 2009 iPod it am dead -- 2009. Twitter. Twitter dead -- -- that's -- -- this is actually -- over the week. I may not know we've got the netbook I didn't print print the -- he'd. Openoffice is totally -- flash is dead -- Longo yeah that's an argument is Mozilla. It's on the my Twitter -- I would have played taps. And yet he points out. Through it all vinyl live corset and -- -- -- -- -- well played Harry McCracken. And I there is another tech news today their reports. -- flicked on inter webs and that the that Google could be launching a Chrome web store by October. Of this year which would suggest that Chrome OS devices are likely I'm on a similar scandal which would. Dovetail nicely with the story that or the report -- that -- Chrome tablet could be coming from each DC November not an Android tablet and of the rural. Now the the story says that this will be a Verizon tablet and and in becoming a Black Friday as the -- right that for shopping and Thanksgiving musical -- rumors state we've been seeing very similar rumors -- about Verizon and Google doing a tablet. Yet all the -- that it's insofar have been about it having Android right what is -- called gingerbread. -- point three and he reportedly while you're at our big announcements in. So while Chrome is going to be in the criminal justice got it let's who will give up which -- not permanent. You can can -- just be an app for gingerbread because you know -- they've got it replaces Jackie brother please be that -- room yeah yeah. -- but that's -- to -- and up Akamai I wonder what happens Andhra Lecrone the -- -- is just a browser though. It's not an island and there's -- there's a little more and -- a little more you know like -- It's okay -- you kinda need that to run the browser -- surface it. They start lodging mark my words if -- aren't watching Chrome OS devices. Powell held in Americanism that I mean really like way to. To stop all of rendered momentum I think of people I think the reason that there haven't been any iPad competitors today -- -- it's taken so long. Is that manufacturers were confused about whether they should use Android or wait for Chrome OS as they tried to put their money on windows -- and didn't work out of the tablet OS and it's just like it. It's delayed to that development and -- -- don't make it worse PC but -- but. Android has momentum it works. He's suggesting that the Android market -- is fragmented. Because what you really didn't -- your what you're missing here ever said such a thing what you're missing is that with Chrome in addition to this what Google is offering is more choice just think about Chrome one point four and then the Chrome one point eight versions gonna come out you know love it it's. What you're saying you know I like the market -- giant market loves fragmentation so listening -- give us more of -- whats what I find very interesting about the Android tablet. Coming along is that Google give them practically no air cover. They say look I asked Google them when we were doing this tablet event can you send us somebody to talk about Android and -- Android is open for open source people -- do whatever they want we have no comment. What they're gonna do -- with anyone who don't know of anybody any cover and anything -- -- I think they're gonna get behind. When Detroit came -- didn't have like a front page on Google's homepage. Remember that that was -- first time that they ever actually like pushed not now lot of them -- not a tablet. Although Bluetooth phone plan that's right even -- when they had just slipped into bed with Verizon and and that's been going really well like -- idea. Even though they do a joint proposal even get kinda like an -- -- is. -- behind it the way that they get behind everything else which is they'll be really excited about -- -- weeks and then I'll stop providing full support for -- developers will complain that they can't get any help from Google and more importantly there will be even more fragmentation in the mobile device market. And if -- weren't enough -- And yet can I just say that I hope that that the online store that they'll have for -- maps. Mirrors what will have for an online store for Android apps yeah because if you know it's nice to use like I would love to be able to use that for my Android phone but it also can expect from -- Chrome -- browser in my. You know lucid -- here. That -- -- Mac Linux and. -- other tablet rumors the the slew of -- -- and -- -- tablets have yet to even appear but Taiwanese news outlet economic daily news is saying that seven inch iPad. Already in the -- iPad -- or the I touch maxi. -- I've baby pad dot but it rarely -- an often reliable Chinese language newspaper proactively predict in the first coming in the iPad. And then they've been digging in -- them behind a number of Chinese factories and they say they think they even know who's going to make. IPad to and then it will be littler but maybe you'll be able. Well as little -- bigger. -- that they'll sorry that that needed borrowers. Maybe there iPad you'll come in and that same size and -- let's I'll I'll. Hi I guess okay yeah. No I -- but this is what does what Apple does they let you know they keep inflation -- -- that I it's again it's like it's in between a MacBook but it's also. Bigger than your iPhone -- now they've got listen you're gonna need to assure you to your existing iPod you're gonna need that second when the seven and beauty companion device direct. Exactly -- some purchases aren't going to fit the regular ten -- so you wanna. They will occupy the -- data to think -- -- actor I have to admit though. They could do I mean because the biggest complaint about the iPad outside from class and the lack of front facing camera is that -- too heavy. Yep and if they get a smaller version that was really because people are saying -- iPad is definitely replacing my. Except that it hurts my hands kind -- makes pump some iron -- penny out terrorists -- -- I I got you know pump iron man who have ideas and let it. The puppets I think that Al Leiter seven a slightly smaller version of it as a reader would be out. Much better than the current -- You'd rather have that than the I just think it would like I don't you I find it too heavy to brilliant comfortably burger on I can -- people on -- -- -- -- this makes perfect sense for Apple to totally. Put a wall products in front of any other products like. Yesterday we get some smaller balanced debate we got that's what -- -- smaller met a lot of phone -- -- so that fidelity goes in your ear. We got -- we got to cover the idea that you see that -- photo right of it I and then there's model -- how does that or Susan let's until it all fit inside each -- never gonna area finally. I know we're gonna take a break and when we come back you are going to be shocked. At the latest news that the FCC about your broadband speed. -- worst fears confirmed again. And AFC's near airports again. That broadband users are getting actually into the news that your broadband users are getting on average a mere fifty per -- Of that up to speed. That you hoped to that you're -- did you ever -- that up to would be what you would get most of the time no one ever did and and there -- is not much for awhile they did the first time it's not about being naive though it's about at this point when they're saying if the per cent like the most broadband users are getting half. Of what they're paying for so what every you thought like in your -- I'm a magical realist world that's a rip off. The the FCC has proposed a couple of examples truth in advertising labels which are actually quite good. It's such in this extended one which will never happen because like way to truthful and but they they show Leo program performance what you -- what you'll get and then consumer ratings underneath -- Moved into and this is part of the broadband plan in the than the one part that they have been able to and that enactment is actual data collection and monitoring. And metrics around what people are getting which hopefully I mean I always felt like if anything within a spur competition it would be this thread it would be consumers discovering that they're. -- getting ripped up like to look pretty unbelievable degree but that's these you know will blame the other side of the equation -- blame the service is a lame Google. Or FaceBook or a -- they're not sending -- full speed data. And the probably not. I like it or to get like fifty -- -- that are getting if you make it's from FaceBook. Yeah I mean why would they think -- fifty megabytes and their product yet there's no question MA you know this -- our second to. Story even point out that it's not a functions strictly of the ISP can -- Computers like old computers they can mean you're not you know slow routers and is configured Wi-Fi transient -- -- -- -- -- all of those things. Nevertheless. Those -- -- continued to advertise heavily. But up to speed and -- ftp is saying that it's so inaccurate at this point that they should try something more like in nutrition label -- And can make is what you're likely to get under these you know scenario -- maybe. I love this idea just for the fact that they actually in the nutrition labels as a public minimum reliability and a roundtrip latency in and that's been my issue is not -- Now the bandwidth mean typically in my experience with getting broadband okay sure they try to -- -- fifty megabytes and then you talked to the guy and and they tell you what's really up. And only trying to be sleazy and lie in early to ask the Bradley a what you can expect on average and do the -- -- and there. Or the the speed tests and -- similar. But it's -- -- about the the packet loss and Lindsay what time to exit yeah you gotta lot -- packet loss -- I had -- A throughout the afternoon -- -- -- packet -- would. Reads like 30% and latency would go with well over two seconds and he -- he can't do any. Thousand like I think I have my -- now oh yeah it's an issue compliment you because you what you're paying extra for that. I'm pretty sure I am have ranger I pay extra for the higher -- -- for the packets that I received. -- that would be -- Anyway it -- so check it I like actually check out a little bit we'll have the link in our senate that he sees little example label and -- would include potentially like an index of the service. As -- by a third party -- -- -- And to those listening and in -- channel how you actually monitor your packet loss you can just in windows type ping space whatever you want. In with a dash T -- zero to go forever or if your Linux -- check out smoke ping it Tokyo who graphs. There you go. Apple has been awarded -- despite our repeated insistence that there was a bundle of prior art for the -- Apple is awarded its patent for -- unlock that. Alien movie apparently didn't was not enough -- the -- the patent office prior art or I think Apple's argument with a prior art doesn't count if the original originate or -- was alien species. Asked the -- against that seems fair. And also they were awarded patent on the keyboard letter pop. So when your -- start predator it was -- sorry your -- -- -- thank you -- -- and -- that that's the thing where you're typing on the virtual screen and the keys. They've letters bigger that you entered it which is really using his fingers Apple didn't have -- have that does it do pop up on the script on -- He does is you know. A little -- the letter -- Police -- on the page I via I'm I'm not surprised that Apple got that and cause it -- mean when Microsoft right in and removes a lot make perfect sense and -- never. In before it's so just one of those things though that it. The weird thing about granting patent after the technologies widely used that it seems to throw in a bomb into the rest of the weird thing it's -- had -- -- so slow. That well yes that's actually been award for the product came out I don't understand -- works and evidence yet if you have to print if you have to -- show that your actively protecting your trademarked -- you should also have to. I don't know they need to be some sort of injunction Lincoln patent filing is in place you can't Android can't then. Because everybody's using these technologies now on it's like as there are attractive licensing being in that and I just think -- it. -- what they must they have to know that the patent application is on file. And the management and then they could get a bond and -- moment now. They have been and they will. And so -- we -- the the speculation on some alternatives that we're -- receive -- -- -- and -- -- -- to unlock now can veto it at this point we talked about that little bit now at this point this Smartphone patent. Portfolio paying I think is -- zero sum game I think they're basically just like. I have the youth. -- do anything you can let me is that -- -- now and then there yes it's the group's Cuban lawyers know how to ultimately fails it's like the nuclear deterrent -- -- -- -- yeah they can all -- each other but they agreed not to and not dependent on the -- up collusion. Arrington. A. Germany has. Google made it opt out of street -- service live in Germany takes us some some Germans apparently have until September 15 to exclude their properties from being mapped on the street view service. Which led techcrunch you I thought it a very reasonable question. What about people. And -- perfect -- elegant like and I do that. So that's how you that's when Eric Schmidt -- proposing evident that when you reach a certain ages be able to reinvent your identity. This is this this balls right at the line with that you should be able to exclude yourself from Google you want to do I know you can clean your house would and it looks -- -- -- have a picture and I like it before and there are you know of course -- -- In that case it's Germany and all the houses -- -- -- -- a -- one of them is does the -- There's no house here I assure that that would it looks like a move that could be that -- It does look like ours that's that's German -- thinks it's okay does this it. It's not so -- street view. That aren't so concerned about what my house it's the overhead backyard view. You know that's for people getting in trouble illegal -- pulls nude sunbathing -- that that's that's for a preview of street view is there anybody driving by hype but drone you I want a robot that helps thing in my backyard that says do not photographed this that yeah. You always know where the good stuff is on Google Maps when you see the blurred out stuff especially like coming from DC I would like pull up Google Maps much on all the time and like okay that buildings blurred. Oh that must be an okay yeah well I've met a -- -- the -- -- learn -- I want the house to be -- I just want to be gone. -- going to be able to remove dementia and then the query the blurry like looks kind of infection like this it will make -- a corner here yeah. Or billboard. -- -- -- Put it out right outfit Medicare Advantage they can remove it -- they've completely remove it you know we we have the technology and the bureau eventually -- it that somebody doesn't have that the mirrors that are lake next to each other. Yeah. Hey it hardware it is for the days Sony has unveiled two new models of PlayStation 3 without a larger -- Are they go okay now there's a 320 gig which will only be sold as a bundle of course. There will be no longer any 128 model their -- 150 acres. With about the same -- the original. -- -- And also apparently the T-Mobile G two is coming which is how little areas that it -- catalogs that you unlike the OG Android phone. And but now there is at at least -- teaser site for the new T-Mobile tool tube we're pretty sure this one won't be running one point -- or picture now I know we just PA capable. Now it's and from the teaser image it looks like it's not -- -- from divide. Yes it looks like it could be canned fancy new and who knows -- And we didn't he he you can Antonin -- not recommend okay. In other phone is Verizon is quietly pushing Skype mobile on to select non Smartphone I think this is fascinating this means you can now get eight -- -- -- really cheap not smart phone with Skype on it and what does this mean for the future of mobile phone industry when you your phone is basically data on running Skype. And chemicals more yeah -- call -- the -- VoIP calls and I'll be over -- -- standard phones that instead of just geeks using Skype. You know at the normal people at their computers on their their friends overseas you'll be able expect hope from any phone. This is cool way a -- yeah aquarium where you have Wi-Fi is it and it's not clear whether it's available over. The three G services that in the future. Though but yes I mean -- it'll work over Wi-Fi. But it as we get you know as forgy rolls out -- and -- be over -- does it does look can actually buy the Skype announcement -- don't. Wow yeah and actually right up without that those -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Right got plenty yeah and it is now official according to update that wasn't a thing before we can get has confirmed -- capable now available -- -- multimedia -- on the brew platform Bruyette and. President the most is that they were actually able to support. Skype to the Java virtual machine. -- I mean and don't confuse people sponsored it's still. The fact that Skype runs on that is the technological feat that affected all admire good job Skype dew point free gold star the first -- RA this is the part where every friend -- go. Yet so all you flight simulator themes out there which -- and I are to open we are delighted to see the news that Microsoft is bringing back flight simulator that's -- called flight. The whole industry of flights and there's has kind of gone into via altered in over the last appears of the product more complicated and users -- -- interest -- in in. In the complexity of them but this one was -- when all is right I know -- really. In November -- you'll probably -- requesting clearance. -- -- -- I had to -- You guys -- Right. Oh. Played a little flight simulator I was never elected gigantic fan but I started people -- continue to know people are so you -- serial numbers and we actually reported last year. That they were killing it the flight simulator game and it was there would like an outcry -- -- -- sound at crash simulator please. It actually says -- feet long running flight simulator game whenever they call via story can. I was just has that let them I did not know does the -- I -- now you cannot -- the thing simulator people they like opera people. And -- fired up -- yeah. One as a regular opera people -- polity game. It's all -- no no when you buzz the golden gate tower and crescent doctor if that game -- -- and that is start -- -- -- Like just realizing that Linux that's used to did you leave it -- Philadelphia while we were talking no. And now I've -- compiling the kernel during the show you need. -- -- feel that I need to issue a warning and states news today and it is look. You can follow him if you want -- don't get attached after a -- not NASA's new robot that's on Twitter and even Twitter sensation. They say but believe me I know from horrible personal experience that when apropos more -- their little -- the devices they end up getting them to Mars to -- And all of will do is break your heart -- -- yeah. -- -- -- everybody with the Phoenix. Dirt now they've made it all -- moment that plucky little rover and its cute little -- and Atlantic giant there and you know mom and they would -- like. -- All these little -- yeah. We don't follow your -- robot not however popular in -- Twitter. They know the call -- to believe -- at all but he doesn't look anything like are you Margaret do it. And it's all like Perry no relation to them that I'm from new robot -- Don't even -- Put the do you believe in life -- love on the playlist now you'll we will not blew me after robo not you know little Phoenix would not have hung on -- long were not for all the love and support he got people like you -- -- Does not make them feel -- and couldn't. Get narrower. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Voicemails -- 106 and 6638 of our number we today is -- comes from an anonymous porn fan. If you -- The industry deciding and technology has -- That there -- these technologies. Or industry jumped on that never derived that it election in the well I haven't experienced it firsthand that you know that a lot of -- Beatty offer. Actually the camera angle when you go into election feature that's -- -- no other companies that are used in these visas or. -- -- -- -- You -- and now it's hitting it you're probably not a porn and bad and that's that act actually the last place I would want that -- The -- yet I'm sure it's it's a lot of work. -- -- expensive Internet you know you you wanna be told a story and both do that of the content all right -- on. Yes Kevin writes to us it -- -- a story hitting the Australian press today the I it's the I net is adding a one terabyte app. To their broadband services the news for us now they can only increase our throughput 24 mega -- a second doesn't cut it wasn't for who'll. -- who actually getting half that but that's. -- I'm getting half of weigh less than -- about them than what 101 a one terabyte cap has basically unlimited is just there way thing -- it you know. No -- via a pretty high on -- Lucky you Kevin. I take permit fusion -- in with an interesting idea -- had -- idea -- -- which -- implemented properly might be able to save the Internet. Will -- the idea is that. The government tells all ISP and phone companies that they will have no restrictions on their top wireless technology for four years. All lesser technologies cannot have -- -- must be net neutral by an FCC declaration of exactly what anti net neutrality is. Like I've said this would -- -- First -- would -- companies like present an eighteen -- to do what they wish with their newest orgy technology they can get Google to pay for the YouTube loads faster if the however that can only apply to -- and not at all to three G if you want to uncapped connection Albion at a lower bandwidth. You can stick to the three G plan but if you want faster service was to prepare you to -- pay a premium for forgy and he goes on to say that he does think about would lead to innovation and then after four years -- so forgy would have to become a neutral whether they like it or not. So it in their best interest to roll -- five G. So they can keep the paychecks from Google -- in the interest in. I think -- have tons of unintended consequence and you wouldn't request it -- we let it. I would not -- wedding -- up I'm like god not men. -- -- -- well today ten years from now when for an three G is like. Well he's -- we had before that anyway huge but yeah island but if they actually did that Andy right that was it for it was a forced four year cycle you know -- it was likely if you wanna keep. You know -- charging you have to build -- ID and then people migrate it to orgy which is untapped and then it would push it -- it would push it's. It would push things forward very quickly it would also create a technology have -- have not economy. Where people could afford it would get the -- the cool stuff and manipulate its its target pretty -- -- for universal service. Which is something if he's he's actually looking at when -- trying to re regulate eyes -- as you know. Phone carriers mean there are already looking at it and arguably we already have -- haven't had not technology you know features here it is not evenly distributed yet right and then people can afford to paper that's Rodman and others can -- on dial up and whenever that's not. I don't know that it would significantly. Increase the digital divide it and -- very interest yeah you'll pass that onto our buddy in each -- -- over at the White House. On the -- Los Angeles threats and to say so in regard to the Wi-Fi sniffing aerial -- to -- episode 1292. Since some hackers are apparently making aerial drones to -- data from Wi-Fi networks. It seems that. We need to take more extreme measures to protect our networks I'm thinking Wi-Fi guided surface to air. Model rockets word that you much. -- and -- absolutely nothing absolutely not. A little at a cost of a small bit of reality and the one thing that you cannot do in model rocketry that is illegal to actually put in guidance systems that's the one thing that's illegal and that let that it should stop don't know got it in fact I think you know since you can't do the rocks just go ahead. And and build yourself out a fleet of interceptor drones to just take a mountain dog -- you gap that's what we need -- see I. Are gonna turn and burn blu. Apparently. -- alright this next email -- this -- I wanted -- say that legislative -- would be a good idea a couple years ago while I was in college we had hurricane force winds. The school -- an emergency response system through text messages that didn't work out too well because the wind blew down the cell -- cell phones didn't work. Through -- and I listen to the media two days later when the towers are fixed we received the emergency text messages. Yet from radio on my phone would have been perfect because our school radio station's -- -- information for the emergence. That makes a lot of sense I.
