First Look: Eclipse AVN2210p

2:08 /

The Eclipse AVN2210p provides a usable, portable navigation system with a feature-rich, in-dash system for navigation, entertainment, and communication.

[ Music ] ^M00:00:02 >> Hi, I'm Kevin Massy from CNET Caltech and today we're taking a first look at the Eclipse AVN 2210P. Now, this is an in dash navigation and multimedia unit with a difference. Let's take a look. As you can see the screen is a lot smaller than a lot of the double den sized in dash units that we've seen recently. But, that's because this system is in two pieces. There's the docking section and then the navigation screen is actually a separate stand alone unit. You can pop out the navigation screen by pressing this button here. You're left with a stand alone portable GPS navigation unit made by Tom Tom. Notice that the dial here is very similar to other Eclipse systems we've seen. It's a trademark four way rocker switch which can be used to select radio stations or also to select digital audio. As you can see with digital audio playing you get the full ID3 tag information showing on the small screen itself and showing on this dot matrix LCD display. Another great feature of this system is its standard front mounted USB port. That can be used to play audio from generic USB mass storage devices or portable digital media players like the Zoon or the iPod. We do like the colorful bright graphics that the navigation system uses. It's a small screen but the menus are very intuitive they're very crisply rendered. In general we think that this device exceeds in its ambitious mission to combine in dash navigation with portable navigation. The system is on sale now for a price of around 800 dollars. I'm Kevin Massy and today we've had a first look at the Eclipse AVN 2210P. ^M00:01:55 [ Music ]
