CES 2014: Dish updates Hopper with companion Joey set-top boxes, and Google Glass app

2:42 /

At CES in Las Vegas, Dish refreshes the Hopper with the ability to record eight shows simultaneously, new Joey set-top boxes that help extend TV functionality anywhere, voice-enabled recommendation, and a Google Glass app.

-It can record eight shows at once while simultaneously watching four recorded shows using a wireless Joey in the garage or a PlayStation in the den or an iPad on an airplane or a mobile device of the backseat of a car and all this can be happening simultaneously. Now while other competitors offer bits and pieces of this experience, only with the Hopper can you do all of these; record eight shows at once, store 2000 hours of video, prime time any time and auto-hop, flexible installation with wireless Joeys and [unk] Joeys, TV anywhere experience both in home and out of home with the DISH Anywhere App, five-star rated app like DISH Explorer and more features like Bluetooth and remote control finder. No one else can give you all of these features in an affordable and easy to use product. "Show me movies with Angelina Jolie." -"Angelina Jolie is my favorite too. Here you go." -So pretty cool and you can see the movies off from my guide, from my on-demand and that voice was not Angelina Jolie or Siri, but it is a voice of our app. "Show me movies without Brad Pitt." -"Searching for Angelina Jolie without Brad Pitt. Playing some favorites here, I see." -Now that's much better. And as you can see it get context of my previous search and only showed me results of Angelina Jolie movies without Brad Pitt. Let's say I wanna watch "Salt" and I can say, "Play Salt." -"Playing Salt on on-demand." -And just like that, I can be watching Salt on my Hopper. Pretty powerful, very simple and gives me complete control of my live TV, my DVR and all my video on-demand content. Okay, looks like I'm getting an alert on my Glass. Wow, the [unk] app on my Glass is telling me that the BCS Championship Game tonight has an excitement rating of 926. Now that's the game I don't want to miss. "Hopper, record the game." And just like that I can use my Glass to schedule recordings to the Hopper.
