Tech Industry: Contour GPS HD Sports Action Camera

2:06 /

At CES 2011, Brian Cooley takes a First Look at the Contour GPS HD Sports Action Camera.

Oh, hey folks. Cooley here just walking around, camera on my head, camera iPhone handy. These go together though. This is the ContourGPS High Def Sports Action Cam. You've probably seen this thing around. These are really cool. It's like 5 or 6 ounces, 1080p high definition comes off this guy. If you watch my car tech videos, you see one of this in action all the time. That shot where I'm driving and it's looking back at me in the cabin, we used one of these. This is the newest model. It's got GPS, a sensor at the top that will pick up GPS coordinates, a time stamps on all the video as well as shooting all that high def picks up audio from an internal mic as well. The new wrinkle though is right here on this iPhone. We've got an app that is using bluetooth to show me the viewfinder because that's one of the shortcomings here as there's no little flip out LCD. It's just not meant for that. It's really small. This way, my phone becomes my viewfinder and it's actually not a bad frame rate. Considering its bluetooth and moving video to a SmartPhone makes a great for setting up your shots seeing if you're going the right way. If you're feeding this thing on your head, you know you can't really go down a hill and ski or something. You wanna make sure you point in the right way or whatever you're doing. Then, if you wanna adjust the camera, I love this, go to the settings tab, this is also new. I can go through here and adjust things like the video mode, the quality, the frame rate, microphone sensitivity from a GPS on or off. Here's something gonna rule this out. In just a few months, early 2011 spring, this will be coming out as an upgrade for this camera. If you have one of these late model ContourGPS cameras, it's already got bluetooth in it. You probably didn't know that. They just haven't unlocked it. Okay, so the best part about this aside from getting it off your head after a while is that the download for your iPhone is gonna be free that doesn't cost anything in an unlocks, that new ability of the bluetooth that's already in this device. If you have one of these Contour HDs, that's just gonna happen when you install the app. It will be available in the spring. Pricing on this is 349 less. Shop around online. You can find some good discounts as well.
