First Look: Brother HL 2270DW

With improvements to its output speed, the Brother HL-2270DW improves on its legacy model and provides small businesses with an efficient output device for high-volume black-and-white prints.

Hey, I'm Justin Yu with CNET.com and this is a First Look at the Brother HL-2270DW Laser Black and White Printer. Now, laser printer is a more economical solution if you're the type of user that only wants to print out text documents, and so like Word documents, spreadsheets, and monochrome presentations are all gonna be good for laser printers, but you might wanna look elsewhere if you're looking to print out high-quality 4X6 photos and we have a bunch of good inkjet printer reviews on CNET.com. That said, we recommend this printer, the Brother HL-2270DW if you fall in with the laser crowd. This Brother can push out quick text prints and you get the benefit of cordless 802.11b/g wireless for $150 which is a great deal for a monochrome laser. There's not a lot to discuss with the design 'cause, again, this thing is more of a workhorse than a runway model, but on top you'll find a catch-all output tray and a couple buttons to control things like canceling a job or accessing the manual feed. The manual tray itself is down here and it makes it really easy to print on a variety of paper mediums like envelopes or index cards. Brother also gives you two ways to connect it to your wireless network in the home or office. You can connect it with an Ethernet cord, too, but the embedded Wi-Fi protected setup lets you associate it to your network using on-screen drivers or you can also use the AirStation One-Touch Secure System if you're using a Buffalo network wireless router. You can read more about its quality and speed test results and see how this Brother compares to the competition in our full review on CNET.com, but that's gonna do it for me for now. I'm Justin Yu and you just took a First Look at the Brother HL-2270DW Monochrome Laser printer.
