Are MacBooks getting OLED displays?

Are OLED displays coming to MacBooks? Well SmartHouse.com AU is reporting an LG company insider revealed that a new 15 inch OLED display will be shown in a brand new Apple Notebook in June, that's around WWDC people. OLED's are the next gen display technology and I've seen them at CS and all I can tell you guys is that OLED displays really make HD look even better than the HD you're used to seeing. They have a greater range of colors, true blacks, they're really super thin and the tech simply wows you. Now Apple recently signed a 5 year deal in January with LG to provide them with displays, so the relationship is there. But does it make sense for consumers in this economy? Sony is one of the few companies with an OLED product on the market and its display sells for 2,499 bucks, but it's only 11 inches. Imagine that price if you're throwing a 15 inch OLED into a MacBook Pro right now. WWDC has also transformed into really an all things iPhone or Mac OSN event so you might be skeptical like myself because I really don't see it happening yet but June's coming soon so they can prove me wrong. Now new details for voice control on the iPhone have been discovered in the 3 point 0 software by website Ars Technica. Apparently code name Gibbler voice synthesis features found on the iPod Shuffle such as telling you the track names and playlist will exist but also speech recognition. Now this could potentially add voice dialing to the iPhone and it's something I've always wanted instead of looking down on my phone while driving, which I never do. In other iPhone news AT&T is in the process of upgrading its 3G wireless network from its current 3 point 6 megabits per second download to 7 point 2 megabits per second. AT&T has been testing it out in 2 markets and plans to expand it to its entire network. The good news is that iPhones and iPhone 3G's will have the ability to access the improved speed with no hardware upgrades needed, I like that. Now if you want to get your music and movies off your iPhone or iPod well here's how to do it. >> Tom: Thanks to Alan for sending along a link to Pod to PC, it's free software that allows you to take the files off your iPhone without messing with iTunes at all. Go to Download.com or PodtoPC.com and download the software. Once you have it installed launch the program and hook up your iPhone. It nagged me to visit its website every time I launched it which was rather annoying but a small price to pay for free software. The first time you'll launch it you'll pick your language and get an explanation screen. Also it will warn you not to have iTunes running at the same time as Pod to PC. Finally, you'll get the main screen which lists the playlist on your phone and an overall summary of what's on there. When you click on a playlist you'll see all the tracks in that playlist. A gold star by a song indicates you don't already have it in iTunes. A blue checkmark means you already have it, don't worry about it. You also have another tab that allows video previews of any unprotected videos, that means stuff you didn't buy from the iTunes Store. To transfer files check off the boxes. You have an option to check all the tracks in a playlist if you want to do it all in one go. Then go to edit and options and you'll see that the files will be saved to your iTunes music folder by default but you can edit that if you want them to be saved somewhere else. When you're ready to get the files off the phone press the big red transfer button. As the files are being moved a green arrow will appear next to them. Once the files have finished transferring you'll get a notice of how many files transferred. I stopped mine at 4 to keep this video short. It tells you that the playlist of those tracks has been saved to your desktop, now that's important. Using the playlist is going to make it easier to add these tracks to iTunes otherwise you'd have to hunt them all down one by one and add them manually. Now close Pod to PC and open iTunes, go to file, select library and then import playlist, open the playlist, iTunes will add the new songs to the library and they'll show up in the main library. And there you have it, now you can get any file off an iPod or iPhone. You can also get Pod to Mac which does the same thing for Macs or Pod Photo Transfer which copies photos off an iPod or iPhone for you. Hope this helps you free some songs. I'm Tom Merritt, CNET.com. >> Brian: Thank you very much Mr. Tom Merritt, because I know you guys will actually use that. Alright that's gonna do it for this week. Remember to write us at the Applebyte@CNET.com and I'll get to as many as I can. I'm Brian Tong, thanks for watching and we'll see you guys next time for another bite of the Apple. ^M00:04:50 [ Music ]
