[MUSIC] Greeting citizens of the internet. Welcome to Tomorrow Daily, the best geek talk show in the known universe. I'm Ashley Esqueda and of course you're waiting for me to announce somebody else here but we're not done yet with the construction of the studio You'll just have to live with these mini episodes until then. Let's see the headlines. [MUSIC] Unwanted Drones flying around? Well this week, one company unveiled a safe way to take drones out of the sky. Sometimes drones make headlines for all the wrong reasons, like flying where they impede things like firefighting aircraft. Shooting them down is super illegal, though, which is why Battelle has created the drone defender. The drone defender works by interrupting frequencies between the pilot And the drone. So when the Drone Defender interrupts that signal, it kind of tricks the drone into thinking it's out of range. So depending on the manufacturer and what safety protocols it has installed, it will do things like land, hover in place, or return to its pilot. Law enforcement officials are already interested in getting their hands on the Drone Defender next year because it neutralizes an unwanted drone without Actually harming the device. There are a couple of caveats though. One drone without safety protocols will pretty much just keep on flying. And two, Batelle is not gonna offer this to the public to buy if you're a civilian. So if you just spent the majority of this last story like getting your wallet ready and hoping to buy an anti-drone device, Think again. Okay, so from drones to robots we have to talk about the Georgia Institute of Technology's recent research that is helping robots fall down. Because robots can suffer catastrophic injuries when they topple over, it's really important for scientists to find ways to help them soften the blow if they get tripped or knocked over. Researchers drew inspiration from how humans brace themselves when falling, but Also took notes on how cats twist their bodies around when falling in order to land on their feet. After putting time into researching those things, the team created an algorithm that gives robots a variety of responses, depending on the severity of the fall, and how it happened. It's important to keep developing research like this But I'm also a little sad, because if we teach robots to never fall down at some point, we'll never see videos like this. [MUSIC] Hey guess what! Paper airplanes just made it into the 21st century. Power Up is a company that specializes in RC engines for paper planes and this week they announced that the kit they developed with drone maker, Parrot, called the Power Up FPV. FPV is short for first person view and that means the FPV kit includes an engine for your paper airplane and a camera too. Then you can mount Bolt to your plane and use foldable headset included in the kit that is a little bit like Google Cardboard that you can stick your phone into so you can actually watch your plane's flight as if you're its actual pilot. The app itself is kinda neat because it adds a cockpit overlay to the view, which is a really cool way to make the The experience seem a little bit more immersive. they're going launch the FBV on kickstarter next month, so if you're looking to get one for yourself, expect to drop about $200 for a basic kit. So that's it for our headlines, let's talk about what we're into! [MUSIC] This week, I'm super into something that is 25 years old, Twin Peaks. Yes, that's right, I am watching David Lynch's murder mystery television series about who killed Laura Palmer. I've had a lot of friends tell me, you have to watch Twin Peaks. I can't believe If you've not seen Twin Peaks, it's amazing. You'd love it. And sure enough I watched the pilot which is 90 minutes and a couple of extra episodes beyond that. And they were totally rad. I love it. It's awesome. It's weird. Everyone in the town seems like they have a mystery [INAUDIBLE] Secrets. And it's really, really cool. And I'm also really excited because Showtime announced recently that they're going to be bringing back almost the entire cast for a Twin Peaks continuation of the series in 2017. So I figured, I got a couple years to catch up on the entire two seasons. It's not a whole lot, but I'm really excited to start watching it. And I love it, and it's really cool. And if you haven't seen it yet, you can catch it streaming on Netflix and Amazon. Prime It's super duper good and I'm really enjoying it. So that's what I'm into. Hey, Producer Logan. This week I'm also into a TV show. I'm into Fargo on FX. Fargo is a weekly anthology based in the same universe as the Coen Brothers' 1996 cult Cult classic film. It's a dark comedy crime show with some tense, yet hilarious, scenes, graphic violence, and an excellent score. Each season tells a new story with a different all star cast. The second season just premiered this past week, starring Kirsten Dunst, Patrick Wilson, Jesse Plemons from Breaking Bad, Jean Smart, and Ted Danson. If you haven't seen the first season, don't worry. As I said, the second season has a brand new cast and story. But I can't recommend the first season enough. Well, I've been on this side of the camera for too long, so let's check out your phonetographer of the day. [MUSIC] This weeks phonetographer of the day is Sudhakar, who writes to us and took this picture with his Galaxy S6 Edge. And he says, hey Ashley I have taken this picture of flowers in my neighbor's back yard using my awesome Galaxy S6 Edge phone the best phone I've ever had. I hope you'll pick my photo I am a big fan of the show. You guys are doing an awesome job of bringing us amazing tech news. Keep up the good work and all the best for future shows. [UNKNOWN] Thank you so much for sending in your picture. I agree, the S6 Edge really did take a gorgeous picture of those flowers. And if you're out there and you wanna be like [UNKNOWN] and send in your phonetography to be featured on the show, you can do that.
