CNET Update: Amazon could be next Spotify challenger

2:42 /

Streaming-music subscriptions look to be the next Internet battleground, Google adds filters to search for animated gifs, and Evernote Food serves up new reservation and recipe tools.

It's now easier to search for the ultimate animated gift. I'm Bridget Carey and this is your CNET Update. Get ready for more choices in streaming music. Amazon is reportedly trying to create its own subscription service for streaming music on demand similar to Spotify that's according to the verge. Spotify right now is the largest streaming service with 24 million active users and 6 million paid subscribers. We recently heard reports that Google and Apple are also trying to start their own similar paid music services so things could get pretty competitive soon. You now can search for animated gifts on Google. The search engine add a new filters to narrow down an image search to a specific type of image when you click on search tools. You can search just for faces, photos, clip art, line drawings and of course animated gifts. You can also search for photos that are transparent as well as other colors and sizes. In other news, the fitness bracelet Jawbone UP now works with Android 4.0 devices. A free Jawbone UP app can be found in the Google Play Store. Jawbone UP is $130 bracelet designed to be worn all day and night. It tracks calories burnt in the day and evaluate sleep patterns at night. It had a glitchy launch in 2011 as the device was recalled and revamped for about a year. When the UP re-launched, it only worked with Apple devices that is until now. Amazon Kindle owners have another way to send stories from the web to their e-reader. Amazon launched a "Send to Kindle" button that can appear on blog pages and news stories. Before, users had to download a web browser add-on to send stories to their kindle. But now a website can just put a button with a little orange keg on their story right next to those typical buttons you see for sharing to Facebook and Twitter. The Washington Post and Time are among the first to have this button. For those of you who video chat on Google Plus hangouts, you'll now have the option to take a snapshot image during the chat with the capture button. That way you can preserve those candid moments. Today's app to watch is one for your foodies out there. The app Evernote Food just add a new tools. You can make a reservation by using Foursquare ratings and tips to help you pick a restaurant and book your table through Open tables reservation system. It's all built into the app and let you search for recipes by Dish Ingredients or the blog it came from and you can share those recipes on social networks. That's your tech news update. You can find more details at cnet.com/update. From our studios in New York, I'm Bridget Carey.
