Culture
[MUSIC] Greetings, citizens of the internet. Welcome back to Tomorrow Daily, the best geek talk-show in the universe. I'm Ashley Esqueda. And I'm Jeff Cannata. Did you miss us? We took a week off, if you weren't paying attention [LAUGH] But we're back. We got you. We got you with headlines. An advanced prosthetic arm, man this is so cool, check this out. This is the Luke arm which used to be Deka arm but was renamed after Luke Skywalker. It was designed by the creator of Segway further developed by DARPA and it's the first and its kind heading to market later this year It translate signals from a patient's muscles into a wide variety of movements more than any arm like it has done before. There are modules for different amputations too, it's powered shoulder joint can reach over head, the elbow can lift the bag of groceries, and it hand can grasp both heavier and more delicate objects. With ease. Over 10,000 hours of testing has gone into developing Luke. And now manufacturer Mobius Bionics is taking submissions from anyone interested in buying one of the first commercial models. Although it costs about $100,000. So this is not cheap but That is an amazing thing. I mean we're really at the point now where amputees have the ability to do very fine detail work with their bionic arms. And I think this is gonna open up a whole range of activities for people like that. Yeah. We just got to bring the price Price down. Yeah. Over time the price will get cheaper. It'll be even better. Just in case hamsters weren't enough, we put some hamsters in a hamster so you can hamster while you hamster. Take a look at this hamster powered hamster drawing machine. This is from the self dubbed maker of stuff Neil Mendoza. He has a hilarious new project. This machine draws hamsters. And the machine is actually powered by live hamsters. Mendoza tend to combine digital and mechanical technology in his art and this machine is no different. He made a simulation of the final product in open frameworks and box 2D, adjusted the design accordingly and then, have the final concept [UNKNOWN] that a plywood. Now, that it's assembled, you can see exactly what it does here as the hamster runs in its wheel, the machine draws a selfie of the furry friend and powered that when the hamster gets tired aboard and steps off. Producer [UNKNOWN] can we please have the [UNKNOWN] on the show. We should try. He lives here in LA. I wanna go visit the hamster machine. It's the hamster all the way down. Hamster all the way. Do you think when that hamster's done, it looks at it and goes, that doesn't look anything like me. Yeah, well maybe it lost- I've been running on this wheel for nothing! Maybe it lost weight while it was running on the wheel, it doesn't look like him at all. Obviously, we have to talk about, I mean, I love the hamster, I love the hamster drawing machine. But, I feel like we gotta talk about Luke. We gotta talk about Luke on Thursday. Yeah. I talk about Luke constantly. This Particularly, we should talk about it on Thursday. We definitely should. And if you guys wanna get in on the conversation, and honestly even if you wanna talk about the hamster machine because it's so great, you can hit us up online on Twitter at using the #HEYTD. Yeah, that's how we know that you're talking with us and we'll include your comments in our Thursday long episode. With that being said, let's check out our Phonetographer of the day. [MUSIC] [UNKNOWN] This phonetographer's name is Franz, who took a picture of this adorable creature with his iPhone 6. He says hello Ashley and Jeff, thanks so much for all you do Family and I enjoy watching Tomorrow Daily and I frequently use episode segments as conversation starters in my college entrepreneurship class. Awesome. I'm also recommending your shows as the source for keeping up with important technology trends that could serve as the basis of starting a new business or launching a new product. I took a photo of my Yorkie Robin on an iPhone 6 while we played on the patio last fall. Obviously he really enjoys playing, and is laser focused on his tennis ball while doing so. Thanks for all your hard work in producing a great show, Franz. Look at Robin. So cute. Hi Robin. This is gonna be a fun month with animals. Pets is our theme for the month of July. Doesn't have to be a dog or a cat. It can be a spider, a snake, you got a pert robot, a pet rock, I don't know, whatever you guys. What do you consider your pet. But Ramen is a pretty good starter. Ramen's pretty good. And I appreciate Franz hit all our four points that we need in any kind of phonetography submission. Indeed he did, and what are those four points, Jeff? He told us what device he took it on. He told us how to print out the name. He gave us a little story. And then he gave us permission Used it on show. Four important key points and once you want to do all those things, just email them over to tomorrow at CNET dot com. You can also find us on social media. We're at tomorrow daily online. If you'd like to share the show it's tomorrow daily dot com. Send it to a friend. That is it for today's show. We will be back tomorrow with a brand new docket of wonderful science facts meeting science fiction and becoming a reality. Just like we always dreamed. But until then. Be good humans. Bye bye.
