First Look: Acer Aspire One D250

For the price, it's hard to find fault with Acer's even cheaper version of the 10.1-inch Aspire One, as long as you're not expecting top-of-the-line features.

[ Music ] ^M00:00:03 >> Hi, I'm Scott Stein, senior associate editor at CNET.com, and this is the Acer Aspire One AOD250 netbook. Acer has made a line of very successful netbooks that have helped define what a netbook is. And their Aspire One line has been pretty popular and pretty affordable. Their AOD250 is not much different than the 150 that we reviewed just a few months ago. However, it's even cheaper. It comes in at $298.00, so it's a sub $300.00 netbook. And in addition, it's thinner. As you can see here, it's even thinner than the 150 model and is a pretty compact package. Now, inside, it's the same as most other netbooks. It has an Intel Atom N270 processor, 160-gigs of hard drive space. It's equipped with a 10.1-inch glossy screen that's LED backlit, so it looks really nice. And the keyboard is a little smaller than a full-sized keyboard. We would have liked it to have been a real edge-to-edge keyboard, but still, it feels really nice when you type on it, especially for a budget netbook. The touch pad is tiny; however, it is a multi-touch, if you can fit your fingers on it. And the button below it, which previously was a little soft and mushy to us, has a nice click now on the bottom. The Acer Aspire One AOD250 has VGA out. It's got three USB 2.0 ports. It's got a headphone jack as well as a microphone jack. It's pretty much all the basic features, including an SD card slot, that you would expect, and nothing more, basic Wi-Fi, VG. To get the Acer Aspire One AOD250 to be this thin, it has a three-cell battery instead of a six-cell, which means that he battery life is a little less. However, you are gonna have a great compact package, and there's no bulge at the bottom. In conclusion, back to school isn't very far away, and people want to save money on an affordable, nice little laptop, well considering that fact that the Acer Aspire One has Windows XP built in, and pretty much has everything you'd basically need in order to surf the web for under $300.00, it's a pretty good package, considering we already liked it when it was $50.00 more. I'm Scott Stein, and this is the Acer Aspire One AOD250 netbook. ^M00:02:12 [ Music ]
