Detroit Auto Show 2015: 2015 Porsche 911 Targa

1:25 /

The new 911 has been a big hit in coupe and cab form, but we've been lacking the Targa model that Porsche owns a trademark on. Not any more!

Now, the new 911 has been a big hit in its various forms. But the one we haven't had yet is the Targa, adding onto the Coupe and the Cabriolet. Well, here it is now. Porsche's iconic design with that brushed metal bar over the top, needs no introduction. You know they actually have the trademark on the name, Targa for this kind of automotive use. Well, this isn't like other Targas. Check out how that top gets out of the way. You don't pick up the panel and stow it in the back by hand. You hit a button, and notice how the Targa-part get swallowed by the rear glass part. This is really interesting top technology. Combine that Targa bar that enveloping rear glass and the wide hunches on this guy because it only comes in all-wheel drive variance. And you've got one of the more massive looking Porches. Two flavors on this guy, both all-wheel drive as I mentioned. The base car does a 4.6 squirting to 60. Then you can get an S that'll shape about 4/10 off for that. And there are the performance upgrades on top of that of course. Base price is about 101 entry level, 116 if you want the slightly faster S. Notice that this car still doesn't come in a turbo variant. I'm not a fetish about them doing that. But they only have about 500 of those decades ago and they haven't brought that back yet. Oh, well.
