Car Tech Video: 2007 Lincoln MKZ

3:09 /

We found quite a bit to like about the 2007 Lincoln MKZ, and only a few real problems. But the stereo is really what this car is all about. You will enjoy driving anywhere in it as long as you have some good CDs.

>> Good looking up front, not so much in the back but some good technology inside, including Gaud's Audio System. Let's check out the '07 MKZ from Lincoln. ^M00:00:12 [ Music ] ^M00:00:20 Here is the star of the show. Our vehicle is hotted up with the GPS DVD navigation system, which by default, includes a THX2 certified sound system. And while I can't really prove it to you in a webcast like this or on a video, I can assure you it's one of the best sounding audio systems in a car I've ever heard, at any price. The system of course begins with navigation. Here's the map quality. It's very good, it's not class leading. There are better looking maps out there. We find the interface on this one is pretty easy to deal with. To enter a destination you get to the touch screen here, you've got some really big easy to address buttons, you have an ABC keyboard; we've seen this kind of rig before. But the touch screen, the size of the buttons and the number of very obvious buttons for doing just about anything on this vehicle make it pretty easy to navigate. Once you get ready for some entertainment, we get over here to our media selection. You see we have AM, FM, CD that is a six disc in dash changer. SR is Sirius Radio that is available as an al a carte option on this car. Line in, of course, refers to the auxiliary jack, which lives down here. Rather inconveniently on the front wall of the console but it's not bad. Once you get your patch cord in there then that hangs out and that becomes more convenient. Here's what's missing though. No true iPod adaptor, just the ox jack; the dumb way to go. No Bluetooth hands-free of any kind; that's a big omission in a car like this. No rearview camera or back up distance sensors, which would be nice because you've got a real high lift on the back there. You feel like you just can't see a thing past that rear package tray, so I'd like to see some kind of detection or rearview camera available on this vehicle. No keyless start, which is kind of becoming sort of standard on premium vehicles. You're going to be putting the key in here all the time. Our gear shift here in the console indicates the only transmission available a six speed automatic, you just stick it in drive or low and get to where you're going. Power comes from a three point five liter V-6, four valve per cylinder coil on plug technology, all the usual fuel injection valve timing tricks, bottom line is about two hundred and sixty horsepower, about two hundred and forty-nine foot pounds are coming out of that mill. Okay let's price our MKZ now ours is an all wheel drive version, there's also a tail dragger, but the all wheel is thirty-one one seventy-five base. Then we add some options. The big Kahuna is the DVD Nav Plus THX Sound for twenty-five hundred dollars or just THX for a thousand, Sirius two hundred dollars more, five hundred bucks for cooled seats and twelve hundred dollars for the power moon roof. ^M00:02:54 [ Music ]
